Teri and Bootsie’s story is a perfect example of why to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The pair met in 2015 while living in a group home and quickly forged a friendship. When the home closed, they worried they might be separated. That’s when Tammy, a Mosaic at Home shared living provider, stepped in to help. Home-based services, like Mosaic at Home, are primarily Medicaid funded.

Watch how their friendship blossomed, instead of ended, because of Tammy’s heart and Medicaid funding: https://www.mosaicinfo.org/blog/bold-lives/friendship-blossoms-and-grows-through-mosaic-at-home/

This month will mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of Martin Luther Home, one of the organizations that created Mosaic in 2003. The organization’s philosophy of loving service was made clear in a 1929 brochure: “First of all we offer them an abundance of Christian love. Whipping, slapping, even scolding is absolutely prohibited. Kindness is our watchword.” The photo shows a few of the early residents of the home.

Next month will mark 100 years since Martin Luther Home—one of the two organizations that created Mosaic—was founded in Nebraska. The news of the Home’s opening spread quickly. Within 11 days, four individuals arrived by train, but the Home wasn’t ready yet. Martha Moehl, wife of one of the founders, cared for the children (and more who arrived later) in their family home until the residential school was ready to house them.

This photo shows an early celebration of the annual Home Day, a tradition that Mosaic continues today. What’s a favorite memory you have with Mosaic? Tell us in the comments!

At Mosaic, we're dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of people with diverse needs. We've been following the latest news on autism and the latest research being done to better understand this complex condition.

We believe that for millions around the world, autism is a fundamental part of who they are. We've seen firsthand the many gifts people with autism bring to the world and how acceptance and proper support make a positive difference in their lives.

As the conversations continue, Mosaic remains steadfast in our call to love and serve these amazing people and their families.

We’re problem solvers and connectors. We are passionate about services and partnerships that create meaningful lives in caring communities, giving a voice to people’s needs.

Our team harnesses data, processes and technology to provide high-quality services to as many people in need as we can. We build relationships to drive outcomes for communities, funders, families and, most importantly, the people we serve.
