Stopping the Stigma. A 2023 survey by the School Nutrition Association () revealed that 66.8% of nutrition directors reported an increase in stigma for low-income students who rely on free or reduced-price school meals. This stigma can make students feel embarrassed or hesitant to eat in the cafeteria, even when they need that meal the most. That means some students may miss out on the nutrition they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
