We’re thrilled to share that our new interns have officially started seeing clients!

Each of them comes to this work with a rich tapestry of life experience — not just as clinicians, but as humans who understand what it means to struggle and to grow. They’re curious, compassionate, and deeply committed to helping others find their way forward.

They work with kids, young adults, adults, and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, the ripple effects of addiction in families, and the unique experiences of veterans.

We believe good therapy starts with connection. If you or someone you know is looking for a safe place to land and a caring guide to walk alongside, we’d love to connect.

Happy New Year. We are so thankful for all of you!

As we step into a new year, it's often full of mixed emotions - hopes of what might be new and different, grief of what's being left in the year that's ending.

The New Year isn’t always bright and exciting for everyone. After the holidays, many of us feel a slump—it’s normal. Transitioning into a new season doesn't happen over night. Give yourself some space to your intentions for 2025.

And don’t forget to celebrate how far you’ve come! Reflect on your growth in 2024: Did you learn to set boundaries? Speak kinder to yourself? Survive a challenging time? These are huge wins!

Looking forward to seeing where we all journey this year.

May you be tender to yourself and others this week. Turn off the news, get outside, go for a walk, and breathe deeply when you feel your heart and your body tense and ache.

You are human. We are human. We'll be ok.

🌍💚 *World Mental Health Day* 💚🌍

Today, we join the global movement to raise awareness, educate, and advocate for mental health. Since its first celebration in 1992, this day has brought attention to mental health education, combating stigma, and fostering support for everyone navigating life’s challenges.

Mental health is health—and it deserves the same attention as physical health. Let's continue to break the silence, reduce stigma, and create safe spaces for open conversations. 🌱✨

If you or someone you know needs support, we’re here to help. Together, we can make mental health care a reality for all. 💬💖

🌟 * A Leader’s Fear Could Be Tanking Their EQ* 🌟

As leaders, fear can unconsciously drive us toward self-preservation, leading to rigid thinking, defensiveness, and control—all of which can undermine our leadership. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a skill that can be learned to help us shift from a reactive fear to a purposeful connection, allowing us to lead with awareness, empathy, and collaboration.

💡 **Key EQ Skills**:
1. Self-Awareness: Recognizing your own emotions and how they impact your thoughts and actions.
2. Self-Management: Regulating your emotions to stay in control and act in alignment with your values and goals, even.

3. Social Awareness: Understanding the emotions and perspectives of others, and responding with empathy.

4. Relationship Management: Using your awareness of emotions to connect with others and build strong, collaborative relationships.

Effective leadership isn’t about staying safe—it’s about being able to stay connected, even in the face of uncertainty so that you and your team can move together in the same, beneficial direction.

Waking up in a cold sweat, paralyzed with the fear that danger is around every corner, or turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms? —these can all be signs of unresolved trauma. If this sounds familiar, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy might be the thing to help you get your life back.

EMDR helps your brain process painful events that happened in your past so that they no longer control your present. By using bilateral stimulation and your brain’s ability to heal itself, EMDR allows you to move past your trauma and create new neural pathways for hope and resiliency.

As an EMDR client you can expect the first few sessions to focus on building trust with your therapist and learning emotional regulation techniques. You will then work with your therapist to choose the memory you want to process. The therapist will guide you through eye movements, sounds, or tactile input while you recall the memory. The dual focus protects your brain from being flooded with the memory and you become more aware of your unconscious experience. Over time, your distress lowers, and you grow new ways of understanding and experiencing yourself, the world around you, and your future.

While EMDR can feel emotionally intense at times, you as the client, are in charge of the direction of the exploration, the pace of the therapy, and the amount you disclose. The therapist is there as support for you and your brain as you both work to make sense of your experience/s and avoid causing you more harm. If you are looking for an EMDR therapist in Phoenix, we would count it an honor to work with you. We also do traditional trauma therapy as well.

🌟 **Meet Our New Intern, Javen!** 🌟

We're excited to introduce Javen, who brings a person-centered approach to therapy. Javen believes that the challenges we face today often tell a story from our past. His goal is to help clients slow down, tune into their bodies, and explore their experiences with compassion. 🧘‍♂️

Rather than seeing himself as an expert, Javen prioritizes building strong, supportive relationships with his clients. He uses techniques from Internal Family Systems, Nonviolent Communication, and Emotionally Focused Therapy to create a space for healing and reconnection.

Javen is passionate about helping individuals and couples navigate depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relational challenges. He’s completed all coursework towards a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University and is now accepting clients at the Phx Counseling Collective.

We're thrilled to have Javen on our team!

Our brains often take shortcuts, predicting what we expect to see rather than what's really there. This is why we might miss small changes, like books moved in our room, but notice something unexpected, like a pink elephant. This "inattentional blindness" affects more than just our vision—it's part of how we navigate life, relationships, and challenges.

Our minds can get stuck in loops, especially when life feels hard. But practices like mindfulness and gratitude can help us see the full picture—the good, the bad, and the beautiful. Tools like a gratitude journal, meditation, or even quick breathing exercises can reset our perspective, helping us live more fully in the present.

By training our minds, we can shift our state of being, finding calm in chaos and joy in everyday moments. Life is richer when we embrace its full range. 🌿

**☀️ End of Summer Struggles ☀️**

As summer lingers and the school year kicks off, it's normal to feel stressed. The heat, new schedules, and social pressures can impact your mental health. 🌡️📚

**In our latest blog post, we explore:**
- Managing seasonal transitions
- Beating the late-summer blues
- Coping with social pressures
- Maintaining physical and mental health
- Setting boundaries and priorities

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can also lower our mental capacity, making it essential to give ourselves some extra TLC during this time. Our mental health and bodies are still struggling with the heat and changing schedules, so be kind to yourself.

Prioritize self-care and navigate this transition with resilience and balance. Check out our full blog post for practical tips!
