Negative thoughts can feel loud and convincing- but that doesn't mean they are true.

Challenging these thoughts come with 3 steps. Notice the thought, ask yourself "is it really true", and reframe the thought. With practice, this helps build a healthier mindset and reduces the power of negative self-talk.

To challenge negative thoughts doesn't mean pretending everything is perfect, it means giving yourself the chance to see things more clearly and kindly.

We are excited to introduce Heidi Roulstone, Clinical Social Worker (CSW) here at Red Sands Psychiatry and Restorative Therapy & Counseling.

Heidi specializes in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) with an emphasis on anxiety, depression management, and parent, child, and family relationships. She utilizes a strengths-based approach and solutions-focused therapy (SFT).

As a provider, Heidi believes that building trust and a relationship with every client is key. She focuses on making you feel seen, heard, and important, while being an ally in your corner every step of the way.

Something that fascinates Heidi about mental health is how different we each are and how learning about ourselves and applying what we know can change us for the better. She firmly believes our differing backgrounds, beliefs, personalities, resiliencies, etc., can be tapped into to help us overcome hardships and heal; something she hopes to help each of her clients discover.

Heidi is empathetic, affable, and encouraging. She strives to help every client see that they are not defined by their disorder; her goal is to guide them in accepting it, learning to manage it, and ensuring it doesn't negatively impact their lives. Heidi believes that if someone leans into their strengths, values, and abilities, they can find healing—and even help others along the way.

Outside of the office, Heidi can often be found stuck in a good book or on a spontaneous adventure. She loves hiking, road trips, listening to and discovering new music, and seeking fun, wherever it might be found, with her friends and family.

We are so glad she is here!

Self check-ins are a powerful way to care for your mental health. They can help you build emotional awareness, reduce stress, and help you notice when something feels off - before it gets too overwhelming.

Caring for your mental health starts with paying attention to your own needs. You deserve that care, too.

Did you enjoy a fantastic time over the Utah State holiday?
We know some of our team members did. They traded their daily routines for a rejuvenating trip to various mountain destinations.
Whether the crisp mountain air is clearing your head, or perhaps some tasty summer BBQ was in your plans, or just a break from the heat - we certainly hope the holiday was a memorable one!

Vitamin B plays a key role in both mental and physical health. It can increase your energy, support brain and nerve health, improve mood, and reduce symptoms of stress and fatigue. It also supports red blood cell production and helps your metabolism run smoothly.

Taking care of your body includes supporting your mind.

Rocky brings a unique touch to every session. His office is filled with fun sci-fi action figures that spark curiosity, comfort and even a few smiles.

Beyond the relaxed atmosphere, Rocky is committed to creating a space where patients feel heard and in control of their care. He takes time to ask and listen to what his patients need - because medication management isn't one-size-fits-all.

We're grateful to have Rocky bring both his expertise and his supportive down-to-earth style to our team.

Calming strategies are simple activities that help both adults and children feel more in control of their emotions. These can be as easy as taking deep breaths, drawing or coloring, taking a walk, or using grounding exercises.

Children often experience big emotions. Using calming strategies help build emotional resilience and can reduce meltdowns. These tools may help children (and adults) feel safe, understood, and empowered.

Setting boundaries can be difficult, and oftentimes others may not understand why a boundary is needed. It is important to set boundaries respectfully and positively.

- Be clear and kind when setting them. Speaking directly, but with warmth.

- Use "I" statements.

- Focus on your needs and avoid blame.

-Stay Consistent. Boundaries are only effective when upheld.

-Respect others' boundaries as well. Healthy boundaries go both ways.

Creating healthy boundaries take practice, remember that boundaries help foster relationships where you can feel safe, respected, and at peace.

Life can throw a lot your way, and it is easy to feel overwhelmed and emotionally drained. But something wonderful happens when you shift your focus to the things that you can control.

By focusing on what you can control, like your actions, your attitude, and your choices; you become grounded and gain clarity. It's not about ignoring the hard stuff, it's about giving your energy to the things that encourage you to continue forward.

Remember, even in the chaos, you still have choices. Sometimes, those small, intentional choices are where healing begins.
