September is Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) Month
Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) happens when a woman's ovaries or adrenal glands produce more male hormones than normal. PCOS causes cysts (fluid-filled sacs) to grow on the ovaries. Symptoms include:

Irregular menstrual periods
Infertility
Pelvic pain
Excess hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, or thighs
Weight gain
Acne or oily skin
Patches of thickened skin
Women with PCOS are at higher risk of diabetes, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Speak with your healthcare provider if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. St. George OB/GYN supports the Centers for Disease Control in their effort to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages.

We want to bring special attention to the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination. The CDC recommends this vaccine to be given between the ages of 11-12 but can be given starting as early as 9 years. Preteens are encouraged to receive the HPV vaccine to protect from HPV infections that can cause cancer later in life.
Speak with your health provider about the HPV vaccine and decide if it is right for your family.

We at St. George OBGYN are always looking out for our patients' health care interests. We are encouraging all of our patients to follow the CDC and Local and State Government's recommendations for COVID-19 preventative measures including:

Limiting social contact to groups of 10 or less.
Constant proactive hygiene practice - wash hands frequently and avoid unnecessary physical contact (hand shaking etc).
Cancel appointments if having any symptoms – fever, cough, congestion, shortness of breath.
Routine visits should be rescheduled.
Telemedicine visits can be done through IHC ConnectCare.

We are asking patients to leave children and other family members at home.

Please have patience and understanding during this difficult time.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. You have probably seen all the pink "everythings" out there to help you think about breast cancer but have you done anything about it?

The American Cancer Society says "Breast Cancer that’s found early, when it’s small and has not spread, is easier to treat successfully. Getting regular screening tests is the most reliable way to find breast cancer early. The American Cancer Society has screening guidelines for women at average risk of breast cancer, and for those at high risk for breast cancer. "

Visit your Health Care Provider regularly and make breast health part of your conversation.
