Here are some of my most common asked questions. Feel free to ask more in the comments! Therapists, add some of yours as well!
Should I shave before my massage?
No, this opens pores and can have adverse effects on your skin with our lotion or oil. Cosmetics and aesthetics are not within a massage therapists scope of practice, unless they have a dual license. Massage therapists focus on helping the muscles, so if you must shave, do it a couple days before, or wait until after.
Should I shower before?
Yes, we are working on your entire body. If you worked out just before getting a massage, that's fine, and most of don't mind you coming in sweaty. However, if you work in construction, warehouse or with cars, you are probably visibly dirty. Anything on your body will transfer to the massage therapist, and you are most definitely not their only client for the day. Please clean up a bit before your appointment.
Can I get a spray tan?
Please no. Again, our lotion/oil will wipe it right off. It would prove to be a waste for you (the client), and in turn would tans your therapists arms. But only their hands and arms. Oh, and their sheets. If you must spray tan, please do it after your appointment, and wait at least a few weeks to come back in.
Can I bring my own lotion?
Maybe. We have lots of people ask to bring their own lotion. Sometimes your own lotion is great, sometimes it's not. It's honestly best to allow your therapist to use what they are comfortable with because most lotion that clients bring in either has a strong scent, or is meant for hydrating, not massaging. We need a lotion or oil that provides lasting glide so we don't have to reapply constantly. We also need something very mild in scent so our clients later in the day/week that may have allergies, don't end up exposed. Please ask your therapist prior to the appointment, but don't be surprised if they turn it down.
Am I too big for the table?
No, most massage tables can hold up to 600 pounds! Again, we are trained on lots of different bodies, and have most likely worked on someone with close to your body type.
