PSORIASIS AWARENESS MONTH 💥 What You Should Know
🧬 What is Psoriasis?
A chronic skin condition that causes red, scaly patches. It’s NOT contagious and affects ~3% of Americans — including children.
⚠️ What Causes It?
It’s an immune system issue that speeds up skin cell growth. Genetics, stress, injuries, and infections can all trigger flares.
👀 What Does It Look Like?
• Most common: Plaque psoriasis (red, scaly plaques on elbows, knees, scalp, back)
• Other forms: guttate (tiny spots), inverse (in folds), pustular (pus bumps), erythrodermic (widespread)
💥 It’s More Than Just Skin
Psoriasis can also affect the joints (psoriatic arthritis) — more often than people realize. If you have joint pain or swelling, don’t wait. Early treatment matters!
🚨 Common Triggers
• Stress
• Skin injuries/sunburn
• Infections (like strep)
• Some medications
• Smoking + alcohol
• Weight gain
💊 Treatment Options
There are many options—and most are well tolerated!
✅ Topicals (creams, ointments)
✅ Phototherapy (UV light)
✅ Systemic treatments (pills, injections, biologics) — great for more than just skin
✅ Lifestyle support (stress, diet, weight, etc.)
Most patients have already tried topicals — but there’s so much more out there. You don’t have to settle.
