Ever since Dr. Paul Milner opened Hearing Care Center in 1989, he has told his clients that "Hearing Loss is more Noticeable than Hearing Aids". Sometimes people are in denial that their loss significantly affects their understanding conversations, while others are concerned about the perception of looking old if they wear hearing aids. He reassures them that treating their hearing problems will make them more engaged and hearing aids nowadays are small and discrete. Come see Dr. Milner to get your hearing assessed and receive a consultation for hearing aids – call 781-784-1944 for an appointment.

Memorial Day is when we remember and honor those who died while serving in the US Military.

At Hearing Care Center, Dr. Paul Milner also wants to honor those whose hearing was sacrificed because of loud noises from weapons, roadside bombs, and noisy aircraft, tanks, and other vehicles. In addition to the damage to their hearing, many soldiers experience chronic and debilitating tinnitus. Although the Veteran's Administration does employ audiologists and provides hearing aids, many vets prefer to see Dr. Milner because of the convenience of the location in Cobb's Corner in Sharon, and the personalized and prompt appointments. Call 781-784-1944.

Many of Dr. Paul Milner's clients are opting for rechargeable hearing aids now. Instead of carrying spare batteries around, they simply put their hearing aids in a charger every evening and they will be fully charged for the next day. But there are still plenty of people wearing hearing aids where the batteries have to be replaced. You can purchase the batteries you need by either stopping by Hearing Care Center during office hours or the batteries can be mailed to you (with an additional charge for postage).

Hearing aid batteries come in 4 sizes and can be identified by their label color:
10 - yellow
13 - orange
312 - brown
675 - blue

Hearing aid batteries can easily be confused with pills, so extra caution is needed to keep them separate. Swallowing a button battery can cause severe damage in the upper digestive tract (the esophagus and stomach), and even death. Immediate emergency medical attention is required because serious injury can occur within two hours of ingesting a battery. But if you ever do mistakenly swallow a battery, a 2018 study found that eating 2 teaspoons (10ml) of honey every 10 minutes will significantly minimize the corrosive impact on bodily tissues until the battery is extracted.

Did you notice that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was wearing hearing aids as he crowned King Charles III? Hearing aids come in a variety of colors, and while the silver matches the archbishop's hair, Dr. Paul Milner would have recommended hearing aids in black to blend in with the temple tips of his eyeglasses.

May the Fourth (Force) be with you!

Ever imagine how hard it would be for a Jedi Knight who has a hearing loss? Chewbacca’s and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s facial hair, the very wrinkled face of Yoda, and the mask Darth Vader wears would all be difficult challenges for anyone who depends upon lipreading.

According to the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders, men are twice as likely to experience hearing loss, but are less likely than women to seek help. Sometimes, wives accuse their husbands of having selective hearing, not realizing there may be a physical reason why they are not responding to comments or engaging in conversations. Schedule an appointment at Hearing Care Center for a comprehensive hearing evaluation. Call 781-784-1944.

Among the many credentials and certificates on the wall of Hearing Care Center, you may have noticed that Dr. Paul Milner is a member of The Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves.

This social organization numbers over 10,000 members, including heads of state, Supreme Court justices, governors, popes, professors, generals, and other notables, plus a local audiologist. Considering that it has been many years since Paul has ridden a horse, it is fortunate for him that the last time the Society investigated a horse theft was in 1909.

Hearing Care Center is conveniently located in the Professional Building at Cobb’s Corner, at 450 North Main Street in Sharon. It shares the building with several dental practices, in addition to medical and mental health professionals, Some people like to schedule one-stop visits to see Dr. Paul Milner, and then another tenant of the building (all who are pleasant and have good senses of humor).

It is not recommended you put cotton balls in your ears because they are not effective ear protection, and some cotton fibers could get stuck deep in your ear canal, leading to an infection. If you need to block sounds (including terrible jokes), Dr. Paul Milner can make impressions of your ears for custom ear plugs. Make an appointment by calling 781-784-1944.
