Gut microbiome changes with micronutrient supplementation in children with ADHD.

Micronutrients have demonstrated promise in managing inattention and emotional dysregulation in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

One plausible pathway by which micronutrients improve symptoms is the gut microbiome. This study examines changes in f***l microbial composition and diversity after micronutrient supplementation.

Micronutrients for ADHD in Youth (MADDY) study is a double blind randomized controlled trial in which children with ADHD ages 6-12 years received micronutrients or placebo for 8 weeks, followed by an 8-week open extension. Stool samples were collected at baseline, week 8, and week 16.

Children who were deemed responders to micronutrients based on clinical global improvement surveys had elevated abundance of the families Rikenellaceae and Oscillospiraceae which can increase butyrate short chain fatty acid production.

Ongoing studies continue into connections between the gut microbiome, micronutrient deficiencies and ADHD therapies in youth.

If we begin with the belief that all behavior makes sense, we tend to approach the behavior with curiosity instead of control.

It's not that your child is bratty or spoiled or demanding or manipulative.

They don't have the frustration tolerance (an owl brain skill!) to tolerate no.

This isn't about their character- it's just about their brain and nervous system.

AND! There are practical, concrete strategies you can take that will help increase your child's frustration tolerance.

And, there are steps you can take to increase your frustration tolerance for their lack of frustration tolerance, too.

Head to The Baffling Behavior Show to listen to episode 92.

It's replaying on the podcast this week so you don't have to scroll back.
