Those who don’t know history…
May we learn from these lessons & their lives not be lost in vain ❤️‍🩹

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day. 81 years ago today, the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated by the Soviet Red Army. Over 1 million people were murdered there.

With the current political situation in the world and the rise of far-right ideologies in many Western countries, I think it's particularly important to listen to the stories of Holocaust survivors and remember all of the awful crimes against humanity that were committed in N**i Germany based on hatred against certain minorities.

Let's not forget that the beginnings of all of this seemed rather harmless at the time and many German citizens thought that the politics of Hi**er and the NSDAP (N**i party) were exactly what their country needed at the time. Many didn't realize that by silently accepting their neighbors' deportation (whether they were Jewish, Roma, homosexual, disabled, a political "enemy" or something else that the N**is didn't like about them), they also accepted that they were being tortured and brutally murdered. The NSDAP was democratically elected and was supported by about 40% of the German population for a while.

Nie wieder - Never again. Wehret den Anfängen - Resist the beginnings. We remember.

Since the video is barely getting any views while this post is getting tons, I'd like to recommend watching that short video as well. I also recommend reading/watching the story of “The Wave” which tells a valuable story of how easy it is to fall for authoritarian mechanisms.
