🎉Celebrating Dr. Amirhossein Mahfoozi – our newest Reason is You Award honoree!

A grateful patient shared their story of life-saving care:
“Dr. Mahfoozi took on a challenging lobectomy due to my severe scoliosis—a surgery other physicians might have declined. He didn’t hesitate. Using robotic-assisted technology, he removed the cancer and ensured no spread. His skill, bravery, and compassion saved my life.”

We’re proud to recognize Dr. Mahfoozi for his extraordinary expertise and dedication to patient care. 💙

Think ma*****na is harmless for teens? Think again.
Today’s ma*****na isn’t what it was in the ’70s. With THC levels up to 90%, teens’ developing brains are at risk for depression, psychosis, schizophrenia—even deadly fentanyl exposure.
🧠 The brain isn’t fully developed until age 25, and ma*****na can rewire it in ways that last a lifetime.
💡 Learn the facts and how to protect your teen.

Increased availability and potency of ma*****na are leading to a higher risk of psychiatric conditions and substance use disorder in young people with developing brains.

A HUGE Thank You 🙏 to this year’s class of Novas, who alongside their Luminaries moms, made an incredible impact on our hospital community:
💙 10,000 volunteer hours given by Novas
💙 5,000 hours contributed by Luminaries
💙 $13,000+ donated to fund vital hospital needs
💙 Additional “wish list” items valued at $2,500 for NICU, pediatrics, burn, and transitional care

The Luminaries began in 1990 with a small group of women from Palos Verdes whose goal was to support Torrance Memorial with their time and fundraising efforts. They engaged their sons and daughters to foster a volunteer spirit in youth through Novas, a popular high school volunteer program that supports Torrance Memorial. Over the years they have collectively donated more than $543,000 to fund vital hospital projects while creating cherished memories and lasting friendships.
Together, Luminaries & Novas prove that friendship and service go hand in hand—and their legacy of giving continues to grow.

Membership is open to Palos Verdes and Torrance residents. To learn more, call Torrance Memorial Volunteer Services at 310-517-4752.
