A recent patient shared how Breast Center technologist Nooshin Naghsheh went above and beyond to provide compassionate, thorough care during a stressful time. Without being asked, she completed a full bilateral screening, took time to document every detail, and helped clarify previous findings from an outside facility. Her professionalism and kindness brought the patient immense peace of mind. Thank you, Nooshin, for representing the best of Torrance Memorial.

— Dr. Rhea Mathew, Emergency Medicine

Energy drinks and high-caffeine coffees are on the rise — and our ER is seeing the fallout.

The increased consumption of energy drinks and other caffeinated beverages has some critical care doctors concerned.

The holiday spirit returns to Torrance Memorial Medical Center for the 42nd annual Holiday Festival, running December 2 thru December 7. Held under a 23,000-square-foot tent on the hospital campus, this beloved community event features festive trees, shopping, entertainment by E Funk Lite, Sabor de México and many more. In celebration of Torrance Memorial’s Centennial, admission is free during all public hours.

This year’s display includes 32 themed trees, including “A Sweet Christmas Golden Ticket” inspired by W***y Wonka, “Tinsel & Tuxedos,” “A Cowboy Christmas,” and “Lilo & Stitch’s Pink Paradise.” All trees are available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the expansion of the Torrance Memorial Emergency Department.

A 12-foot “Heroes Tree” will stand in the Lundquist Tower lobby, where donors may dedicate a crystal-adorned metal star in honor of a hero, with gifts ranging from $100 to $5,000.

Early detection saves lives.
Dr. John Abe, pulmonologist at Torrance Memorial, shared how new diagnostic tools like the Biodesix's Nodify Lung blood test are helping physicians make more informed decisions when a lung nodule appears on a CT scan.

This simple test — just a few drops of blood — can identify antibodies linked to lung cancer, helping determine whether to “watch and wait” or take a more aggressive approach.

Dr. Abe also notes a growing trend in the South Bay: Asian women who have never smoked developing lung cancer due to a gene mutation. Thanks to advanced screening and minimally invasive robotic bronchoscopy, many of these cancers are now being caught early — when they’re most treatable.

🔹 Lung cancer remains the #1 cancer killer, but screening can change that.
If you’re between 50 and 80 and currently smoke or quit within the last 15 years, talk to your doctor about getting screened.
