🇯🇵 Happy National Foundation Day! 🇯🇵
Today, Japan celebrates Kenkoku Kinen no Hi (建国記念の日), a holiday that honors the legendary founding of the nation! 🎌✨
According to historical texts, Emperor Jimmu ascended the throne on February 11, 660 BCE, marking the beginning of Japan’s imperial lineage. While the story is rooted in legend, this day is a time to reflect on Japan’s rich history, cultural identity, and national unity. 💙
Originally established as Empire Day (Kigensetsu) during the Meiji Era, this holiday was later abolished after WWII and reinstated in 1966 as National Foundation Day—now focusing on peace, democracy, and appreciation of Japan’s heritage rather than imperial rule.
Unlike other major Japanese holidays, National Foundation Day is more subdued, but it’s still observed through:
🎌 Flag displays – The Hinomaru is flown across Japan as a sign of pride.
⛩ Shrine visits – Many people visit places like Meiji Shrine in Tokyo.
📜 Commemorative events – Government and local groups reflect on Japan’s achievements.
While the holiday may not be as widely recognized as others, it remains a meaningful reminder of Japan’s enduring legacy and bright future. 🌸✨
