What is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)?

It’s a condition where plaque buildup narrows your arteries, reducing blood flow—especially to your legs and feet. Left untreated, PAD can increase the risk of limb amputation, heart attack, or stroke (Vascular Cures, n.d.; Mayo Clinic, 2024).

Don’t wait for symptoms. Early detection saves lives.

Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) isn’t just a men’s health issue. It affects both men and women, and research shows that women have higher rates of PAD.

PAD occurs when arteries, most often in the legs, become narrowed due to plaque buildup. This reduces blood flow and can lead to leg pain, slow wound healing, and other serious complications.

For many years, PAD was considered a “male disease” because it was defined by a common symptom: intermittent claudication, or leg pain during walking or exercise. But many women with PAD do not have this symptom. As a result, their condition often goes unrecognized.

Without early detection, women are more likely to be diagnosed at a later, more serious stage called Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI). CLI occurs when blood flow to the leg becomes severely limited over time, leading to ongoing pain, tissue damage, and an increased risk of amputation.

Did you know that to***co use is the number one risk factor for Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)? Understanding these risk factors can help with early detection and may even slow the progression of the disease.

If left untreated, PAD can progress into a more severe stage called Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) in which blood flow to the leg is severely reduced, causing constant pain and tissue damage.

If you or someone you love has one or more of these risk factors, it’s worth discussing with a healthcare provider.

Call us at 918-943-5303 to learn more or schedule an appointment with us today.

Many people believe that symptoms like cramping, numbness, or weakness in the legs, hair loss, slow-growing toenails, changes in skin color or temperature, or even erectile dysfunction are simply a normal part of aging.

In all actuality, these symptoms could be signs of underlying cardiovascular problems such as Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), which affects blood flow to the legs and other parts of the body.

PAD can lead to serious complications if left untreated, including pain, mobility issues, and in severe cases, tissue damage. Early detection and treatment can make a huge difference in managing symptoms and preventing progression.

If you or a loved one experiences any of these symptoms, don’t ignore them or just assume it’s “normal aging.”

Call us at 918-943-5303 to book an appointment.

Your health is worth it. When in doubt, get checked out!

Today, we celebrate a bittersweet moment as we say goodbye to a truly special member of our team. For the past 16 months, Raechel has worked closely alongside our physicians, embracing every opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute with dedication and compassion.

From day one, she approached every task with a sense of purpose and curiosity, leaving a lasting impression not only on our team but also on the patients we serve. Watching her evolve has been a privilege—and now, as she prepares to begin a new chapter in medical school, we couldn’t be prouder.

While we will miss her bright spirit and thoughtful presence, we are beyond excited for the journey ahead. The future of medicine just gained a truly exceptional caregiver.

Congratulations, Raechel. Your story is only just beginning, and we can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make.

With heartfelt gratitude and best wishes,
