I had a consultation with a recent su***de attempt due to schizoaffective symptoms (seeing people and things that aren’t really there) becoming overwhelming. There was a direct correlation of symptoms starting after the person started medical marajuana.
They had never put the timeline together before. I did not realize the severity of psychosis THC can cause until I looked it up in our meeting having marked out the timeline of events.
Taking the time to track causative factors of mental health issues is a huge part of my work. This was a new one for me with the severity but it was quickly confirmed and I had no idea.
I’m extremely concerned. I also had a young user tell me recently they had hallucinations as well. Unfortunately at that time I did not know this so I did not make the correlation.
I’m always learning and the best teachers are often my clients.
Everyone needs to know this.

The best relationship advice you will ever hear for absolutely free:

If you want to test the quality of any relationship and find out if it’s toxic or healthy, do this one thing.

KINDLY BE HONEST ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL REGARDING A BEHAVIOR THEY DID THAT HURT YOU OR THE HEALTH OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP.

Absolutely anyone, as far as I have been able to discover, can empathize with something someone else has done to hurt you, especially if the investment in your relationship is about them (manufactured empathy).

On the contrary, I have found
absolutely no one who turned out to be toxic to be able to honestly reflect on their behavior and apologize or amend their behavior in order to cultivate the relationship.

It takes courage to put yourself out there with this kind of vulnerability, but it is the fastest way to save yourself from weeks, months, or years of disappointment and heartbreak.

Regardless of what kind of toxic personality they may be, a toxic person will not value your input as constructive and helpful to strengthen your relationship.

A healthy person will value and respect your honest feedback as they will have a pure desire to strengthen the relationship through healthy communication and trust building.

I have probably spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours over the years pouring over the effort to figure out who is healthy and who is not healthy, and I can honestly say I could write an entire book about it, and most of it would be excessive information over and above what I just shared.

A healthy person will leave you feeling seen, valued, and respected. A Toxic person will leave you feeling invisible, devalued, and disrespected. Listen to your gut, have the courage to test the relationship with honesty, and even though it will be harder you WILL eventually build a tribe of people who will be there to surround you, love you, and protect you.

Understanding Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD)

Neurofeedback can help you heal!

Introduction:

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a well-known mental health condition that is often associated with traumatic experiences such as war, accidents, or physical violence. However, there is another form of PTSD called Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (cPTSD) that is less recognized but equally significant. cPTSD can result from repeated and prolonged exposure to traumatic events, such as ongoing abuse or neglect, and can have a profound impact on a person's well-being and quality of life.

Defining cPTSD:

Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health condition that typically develops after experiencing multiple and prolonged traumatic events. Unlike traditional PTSD, cPTSD often arises in situations where the individual feels trapped, helpless, or unable to escape the ongoing trauma. This can occur in cases of chronic abuse, childhood neglect, domestic violence, or long-term captivity, such as being held hostage.

Symptoms and Impact:

The symptoms of cPTSD can be wide-ranging and can affect both the psychological and physical well-being of individuals. Some common symptoms include:

1. Emotional dysregulation: Intense and fluctuating feelings of sadness, anger, irritability, or shame.

2. Self-esteem issues: A persistent sense of worthlessness, shame, or guilt, coupled with feelings of failure or inadequacy.

3. Difficulty establishing and maintaining relationships: Trust issues, fear of abandonment, and difficulty forming healthy attachments with others.

4. Distorted self-perception: A negative view of oneself, feelings of emptiness, and a sense of being different from others.

5. Dissociation: Experiencing detachment from one's body or surroundings as a coping mechanism to escape the trauma.

6. Hyper-vigilance: Constantly being on guard and easily startled, leading to difficulty in feeling safe and relaxed.

7. Physical health problems: Chronic pain, headaches, digestive issues, and other stress-related physical symptoms.

Coping mechanisms and treatment:

Coping with cPTSD can be challenging, but recognizing the symptoms and seeking professional help are crucial steps towards recovery. Therapeutic approaches such as trauma-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) have been found to be effective in helping individuals manage their symptoms and process traumatic experiences.

Building a support network of understanding friends, family, or support groups can also be an essential part of healing from cPTSD. Engaging in self-care activities, such as exercise, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques, can provide individuals with effective coping strategies to manage their symptoms.

Conclusion:

cPTSD is a pervasive and debilitating condition that can significantly impact an individual's daily life and overall well-being. It is essential for society to recognize the existence of cPTSD and provide support and empathy to those who are affected by it. By promoting awareness, understanding, and access to appropriate treatment, we can help individuals navigate the challenging path towards recovery and healing from complex trauma.
