The Heart of Distinction Award is the highest recognition in the Leading with Heart program, honoring a previous quarterly Heartbeat Award winner who consistently shows extraordinary compassion, unwavering commitment, and exceptional care. This award celebrates how deeply Leading with Heart has taken root across our organization — inspired by the stories, nominations, and daily acts of kindness.

Kayla’s story is a powerful reflection of that standard in action. Over her 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 at Laurel Ridge, she’s touched countless lives, from bringing home-cooked meals to a resident without family, to petitioning the court to ensure another’s ashes were treated with dignity and love. Even after surgery, she returned on her own time just to visit our residents she cares so deeply about.

Kayla shared, “When I first became an aide, I was told not to put my heart into it—not to get attached. But I'm the total opposite. I wear my heart on my sleeve.” 💞

Day 4 of Skilled Nursing Home Week at Laurel Ridge Center was a HIT!

It was T-Shirt/Wear Red Thursday and we showed up in style!

We celebrated with:

Cupcakes, Italian beef sandwiches, rigatoni, and fresh salad! (Yes, it was as delicious as it sounds!) YUM!

Our amazing team got gift bags and new T-shirts—because they deserve all the love!

But the BIG moment of the day…

Congrats to our incredible Maintenance Director, Jeremiah, who received the $500 “Leading with Heart” check!

Laurel Ridge Center kicked off National Skilled Nursing Care Week with a delicious bang!

Day One started strong with a hearty Bob Evans breakfast 🍳, a flavorful Chipotle lunch 🌯, and ended on a sweet note with apple pies for our afternoon and night shift teams in honor of National Apple Pie Day. 🥧

Day Two was full of spirit and sweetness! We rocked our favorite team gear ⚾️🏈 and enjoyed sweet treats that had everyone smiling!

Day Three was a double dose of fun!

Our staff enjoyed a festive “Hats Off to Hot Dogs” picnic with juicy hot dogs 🌭, creamy potato salad 🥔, and a beautiful cake to top it off! 🎂

Meanwhile, our residents had a blast at a beach-themed party filled with sunshine, smiles, and tropical vibes — all thanks to our amazing Activities Director!☀️🌴

We’re loving every minute of celebrating our incredible team and residents — and there’s so much more to come!

Norma, our facility Activity Director, has been with the team here for 29 years! When asked what she likes most about her job, Norma states, "Being a part of the residents' lives and making a difference!"

Rachel has been with the team as an Activity Assistant for 1 year! Rachel states, "I love to help and be a blessing and help lift the load with my boss and other workers!"

Thank you both for your hard work and dedication to our residents! Activity staff are the heart of our community, bringing joy, purpose, and connection to every day. Their creativity and compassion turn moments into memories and care into something extraordinary!
