What a journey it’s been for this brave little fighter! Beckham has shown the world what true strength looks like from the very beginning.
At 30 weeks, his mom, Cecilia was admitted to Atrium Health Navicent The Medical Center with complications from her pregnancy and a life-threatening condition for the baby. Beckham was born at 1 lb. 8 oz. and was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where he was placed on a ventilator. A few weeks after birth, he underwent several tests including an MRI and lumbar puncture, which diagnosed Beckham with an infection in his bloodstream caused from an abscess in his brain, requiring surgery. Through it all, Beckham proved that he was stronger than his circumstances.
Beckham finally went home after 131 days in the hospital, and was greeted by a parade through the NICU. His proud big brother, Everette, was waiting with open arms at home. Today, Beckham is almost 3 years old, recently graduated from one of his specialty clinics, and continues therapy at Atrium Health Navicent. He loves dinosaurs, playing cars with Everette and making everyone around him smile.
This week, Beckham will take his biggest victory lap yet, crossing home plate as the special guest at the Macon Bacon Home Run For Life game! Many of his former NICU caregivers will be there to cheer him on, celebrating the incredible journey of this strong, joyful little boy.
We’re so proud of you, Beckham! ⚾🦕💙
