🚨 URGENT: Help Protect Medicaid and Our Communities
Congress is moving fast on a bill that could make it much harder for people to get and keep Medicaid. A vote could happen as soon as this Friday.
This bill would hurt people with disabilities, older adults, and families with low incomes—especially here in South Carolina, where Medicaid is already hard to get.
If passed, the bill would:
⛔ Make people reapply for Medicaid every 6 months—this means more paperwork, more confusion, and more people losing coverage by mistake
⛔ Cut funding for home and community-based services, which could force people into nursing homes who want to live at home
⛔ Use a confusing definition of disability, leaving out people with invisible or changing conditions like mental health issues or brain injuries
⛔ Cut food assistance (SNAP) and programs that help people apply for and keep their Medicaid
These changes don’t help people. They make it harder to get care—and they’re moving fast, before most people even know it’s happening.
Experts Say This Bill Will Hurt People: No national disability organization supports this bill. Professionals in aging, health care, and civil rights have all warned that it will lead to more poverty, health problems, and people being forced into institutions.
