You’ve met your person. Your love is growing wilder and more tenaciously than pole beans in July (it’s Indiana, I’m standing in my garden, work with me, folks!), and you’ve asked the big question. Eighteen years ago, I put on this dress and veil I made, and had a cosmetology student apply more hairspray and Bobby pins than I thought would be possible and made some promises in front of an officiant who did an amazing job for the tiny budget I had. (Whole wedding budget, including cost of dress materials, $450.) It also inspired me to pay it forward by also being as budget friendly as possible as an officiant.
