🌟 has been part of the Great Lakes Rural Opioid Technical Assistance Regional Center for the past three years.

Along with its partners, the Center has conducted a needs assessment to identify behavioral health challenges in rural areas, had more than 3,000 virtual education contacts across rural counties, provided evidence-based training in substance use and programming to over 900 adults, and much more! 🤝🏻

👏 Congratulations to our Health & Human Sciences Educator from Sullivan County, Cheryl Casselman, who was invited to attend the Indiana Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Lindsay Weaver’s recent visit to the Sullivan County Health Department!

Cheryl had the opportunity to share how Purdue Extension - Sullivan County is partnering with the local health department through Health First Indiana funding (HFI) which is an investment in prevention that will lead to healthier communities. These efforts include supporting Purdue Extension programs like Dining with Diabetes, A Matter of Balance, and Get WalkIN’, along with the launch of a walking initiative using the YuMuuv app to help combat obesity.

We’re proud to see Cheryl and the Sullivan County team recognized for their impactful work in public health! 🏥🚶‍♀️💪

Health and Human Sciences was thrilled to take part in the 15th Anniversary Celebration of Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences on Friday, Sept. 26!

From carnival games and bounce houses to hearing screenings and Pete in action, the event was packed with energy, smiles, and meaningful moments. We were proud to host an information table and share how HHS Extension continues to connect the college’s mission and with communities across .

September is National Fall Prevention Month — and there's never been a better time to take a step toward safety and independence.

DYK that adults aged 65 and older are at a higher risk of falling? At , we’re committed to helping older adults stay active and confident through our evidence-based program, A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls.

Led by trained coaches, this interactive program helps participants:
✔ Understand and reduce fall risks
✔ Learn practical coping strategies
✔ Build strength, balance, and flexibility
✔ Stay active and independent

Many past participants have shared that after completing the course, they felt more empowered and were incorporating more physical activity, like stretching, balance, and strength exercises, into their daily routines.

🚂Purdue University Center for Rural and Migrant Health hosted its second annual symposium, “Policy: Conversations About Rural & Migrant Health,” this past Friday, September 12th.

The event featured an enriching day of dialogue and discovery, including a dynamic panel of experts from both academic and community backgrounds. Attendees explored a wide range of topics through interactive poster sessions and research-driven breakout discussions. 👥🧠

We were proud to see several posters highlighting the impactful work and connections of Health and Human Sciences throughout the event.
