Guess who’s back! 🤎🥰
Hey, y’all hey! Honestly and truly I don’t have any other reason for my absence, aside from- I needed the reset and break. I’ve popped in occasionally over the last year to check on you guys though 😉 & if you follow my personal account, you’ve seen me there.

Me? I’m doing well! Resets and rest are vital. I’ve been working, I just haven’t posted anything social media. Mainly I’ve been taking time to prioritize myself. Why is that so hard to do? Maybe not for some but it was definitely a lovely adjustment. Some cool things are happening that I’ll announce soon, so look out for that.

Thank you all for checking on me. I know you guys miss this content but more importantly, I miss educating!

Let’s use this opportunity to catch up b/c I’ve missed you all. Drop down below and share some good news! Lmk what you’ve been up to. Any new babies? Engagements? Weddings? New jobs? Relationships or friendships ended for the better? How are the kids? School? Talk to me! ☺️

A beautiful birth story. ✨🤎

Birth is intense, yes, but the reward that comes from tapping into unknown strength to birth your baby is worth it & always so beautiful to witness.

Empowered. Family centered. Well informed.
Welcome Earthside little one.

Repost from photographer .bridgewater:

Third babies are such a wildcard. They are either fast and furious with no warning signs or they take their time to make their decent. With nearly a week of prodromal labor, this mother began to feel anxious which she thinks further prevented active labor from beginning.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She and her doula had a long talk about getting out of her head, overthinking, and over analyzing. The next morning around 3 AM, the waves came fast. Their surprise-sex baby made their debut around 7 AM.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Birth is as mentally challenging as it is physical, if not more. If you are a parent of multiple children, how did your births differ from your first?

I saw a post the other day that said, “We often focus so much on the future that sometimes we forget we’re right in the middle of what we prayed for.”

While this is only the beginning, man am I grateful for this journey, the people who have poured in to me & where I’m headed.

I see SO much more in the future.
I see an abundance of families I’m able to assist.
I see more classes I’m able to offer.
I see my dream office then birth center that currently live in my head.
I see the work that I’m doing being a blessing to those who need it.

Shoutout to all the other birth workers who do this work & those who are coming behind me. I understand first hand the challenges, burn out & obstacles. I see us constantly pushing through because we know how vital this care is to the community.

But at THIS moment, I want to focus solely on gratitude. ✨

The first latch. 🤍🥰

A few signs of a good latch are as follows:

The latch is comfortable and pain free.
Your baby's chest and stomach rest against your body.
Your baby's chin touches your breast.
Your baby's mouth opens wide around your breast, not just the ni**le.
Your baby's lips turn out.
Your baby's tongue cups under your breast.
You hear or see swallowing.

The first trimester is a cross between being excited about being pregnant (for some) mixed with hating feeling sick due to the hormonal dance that occurs as your body prepares to grow your baby. ✨

This trimester can also bring on a lot of emotions for those who battled with previous pregnancy loss.

Wherever you are in this trimester, I thought it would be a great idea to list them and share with those who are planning a future pregnancy and wondering what to expect.

It’s important to stay hydrated and increase your protein intake. There’s a slew of nausea remedies out there but I recommend frequent small meals and having something in your mouth before getting out of bed. That can look like a handful go nuts or even a peppermint.

Where are the pregnant mamas making their way through the 1st trimester? How are you guys feeling? Did you experience any of these symptoms? Anything else you experienced or is there anything you’re looking forward to?
Let’s chat below. 💜

Goddess energy from this beautiful mama & her littles. 💫👑🤎

Happy Friday.

I’m hoping you guys are able to do something for yourselves over the weekend.

Drop down in the comments & let me know what that looks like. It could be dressing yourself (& your bump) up for a date night with your partner, cuddling on the couch, playing with your littles, a nice bath/shower, prepping for your birth, taking beautiful maternity photos or doing absolutely nothing (my favorite).

Whatever it may be, enjoy. ✨

Hey guys! ✨ Here’s a few of the questions you guys send via DM because I’m not always able to respond to all of them. 🖤

FAQs:

Do I have a have a big house for a homebirth?

No. You can birth anywhere, in whatever space you have. As long as it’s clean and you have electricity & running water, we’re good.

What happens if there’s an emergency?

Midwives bring all necessary equipment to handle emergencies. A skilled midwife also knows if & when we need to transport to the hospital. That plan is in place before labor begins.

Can I eat & drink in labor?

Would you run a marathon with no fuel? 🙃 Yes.

I had a c-section. Does that mean I have to have another one?

I’d need more details to say for sure, but absolutely not. You can try for a vaginal birth. Don’t be coerced. Ask questions & find a provider if that’s what you desire.

Bonus questions I couldn’t fit:

How did you decide to become a midwife?

It chose me. Literally as a pr***en lol. I just answered the calling. Find your path & GO.

How do I book you as a midwife?

If you guys have any other questions, drop them below & I’ll select a few to answer in a different way. 🖤

These dilation pumpkins are the scariest thing I’ve seen all night. 🎃🙀 🤣
It was set up by midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Lancashire, England as part of a pumpkin decorating competition.

RED FLAG ALERT. KNOW THE SIGNS. 🚩🚩🚩

I had to jump on this trend. If your provider says any of these to you, know that it’s worth further investigation.

No coercion. No fear-based maternal care. Your birth, your way. Advocate for yourself. 😎

Baby Z’s mama wasn’t playing when she mentioned her history of precipitous (fast) labors. I got the call of a first contraction at 6:57am, checked in with them after 30 mins then made the plan to be at their home within the next 30 mins. I walked through the door at 7:55, glanced at mama and told dad to fill the birth tub. One contraction later mama stated she to had vomit- I know you all hate it but in midwife world, we know it’s pushing the baby down. Immediately after she got in the birth tub (there was barely enough time to get water in there) & baby was out at 8:06am. Not only was this her most fast labor, it was a surprise birth b/c they didn’t know what they were having but secretly hoped for another boy which evened out their team. 💙

She rocked her birth and the older kids briefly but excitedly got to see their new brother before being ushered next door to the neighbors.

Happy Birthday sweet boy & congratulations to the entire family. It was an honor to help usher you earthside. 💫✨

Also, I have the sweetest families. Check out the cute insulated cup she gifted me.
