Meet Mac. One of the sweetest dogs! He got a bone caught on his lower jaw. Thankfully it was easily removed with some light sedation and Mac recovered without incident.
Some people believe bones are healthy for dogs teeth. Besides risks like getting them caught on their jaw, like this, they can cause other injuries like choking, GI problems including pancreatitis, intestinal blockage and severe constipation. They also pose a risk of fracturing teeth.
Although they sell bones 🦴 for dogs to chew the risks vs benefit need to be considered. If something is too hard to indent with your fingernail it is too hard for your dog to chew.
The Dogington Post does a fairly good job summarizing the situation.
