Meet Maika, a determined young patient under the care of Arun Hariharan, MD, MS.

She has idiopathic scoliosis, a condition where the spine curves sideways without a known cause. Maika is a strong candidate for bracing and has shown incredible dedication to wearing her brace every day. Bracing isn’t easy, especially for kids and teens, but Maika continues to stay committed to managing her curve without surgery. Her focus and resilience are inspiring, and we’re proud to support her journey.

Londyn is just 3 years old and already showing incredible strength and resilience.

She was born with Congenital Femoral Deficiency, which left her left femur significantly shorter, misshapen, and poorly connected to her hip. At 18 months old, she underwent a complex SUPER Hip reconstruction to properly align and stabilize the bone.

This spring, she began the next phase of treatment: gradual limb lengthening using an external fixator. After a precise bone cut (osteotomy), her family now makes small, painless adjustments each day to gently lengthen her femur.

Twelve weeks later, Londyn has gained over 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) of new bone growth—an incredible step forward on her journey to balanced mobility.

Meet Jake, a longtime patient of the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute and an inspiration to everyone who meets him.

He has undergone multiple surgeries to address deformities in his arms and legs and is currently undergoing a tibial lengthening to correct a leg length difference. Through every challenge, Jake remains positive, confident, and committed to helping others by sharing his experience with patients and families on similar journeys.

We're so proud to be part of his care and grateful for the heart he brings to the Paley community.

🎙 New episode of the Paley Pod is live!

In this episode, Arun Hariharan, MD, is joined by Schroth Method expert Meredith Weiss to explore how personalized scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE) can slow curve progression and improve posture, strength, and alignment.

As one of just five active teachers of PSSE in the U.S., Meredith breaks down what makes this non-surgical approach so effective—and what families should look for in a qualified therapist.

When Jencen was diagnosed with left hemiplegic cerebral palsy and schizencephaly—a rare brain malformation—her parents were told she would never walk or talk. The prognosis was heartbreaking: round-the-clock care for life. But they never gave up hope.

At the Paley Institute, they met Dr. Dobbs, who saw something different in Jencen and connected them with Dr. Asadi. After a thorough evaluation, she was found to be a strong candidate for selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR), a procedure that offered a real chance at mobility.

Today, Jencen is running, jumping, and climbing with confidence.

Her journey is more than a medical success, it’s a testament to what’s possible when care teams and families work together. Her parents say one of the most meaningful parts of their experience has been being treated as true partners in her care, with their voices heard and valued every step of the way.

A tribute to a visionary. A future still unfolding!

Dr. Paley was inducted into the Limb Lengthening Hall of Fame—recognized for decades of pioneering innovation, global impact, and leadership in the field.

S. Robert Rozbruch, MD, a former fellow and close friend of Dr. Paley’s, introduced him to the audience. He mentioned that Dr. Paley “had the courage to challenge the established norms, and the resilience to withstand the headwinds. And because of that, he changed everything.” Dr. Rozbruch went on to say that Dr. Paley “never lost sight of the patient’s experience and continually pushed to make treatments more effective, more tolerable, and more transformative”. Dr. Paley “is not just the face of this specialty,, he is it’s beating heart.”

As the first president of the Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction Society in 1989, this honor was especially meaningful. Surrounded by colleagues old and new, from longtime partner Dr. John Herzenberg to current partner Dr. Munjed Al Muderis, this moment celebrated a legacy still growing.

Before coming to the Paley Institute, Kylee and her family were told by another specialist that amputation was her only option. But when they arrived here, our PA, John, reviewed her case and confidently said: “Yes, we can reconstruct her leg. No, she doesn’t need an amputation.”

That moment changed everything.

Today, Kylee has officially graduated from POSI and is living a full, active life. Her story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible—and why we do what we do.
