Wrapping up our volunteer spotlight series we need to thank a group of volunteers who are always on call. Thanks to those who organize and run our warehouse. You stay late to receive a shipment or figure out how to return important equipment. You count and sort items to make sure they are safe, up to date, and ready for our next mission. You accept donations, you keep things neat and tidy and so much more.

A shout-out to our warehouse crew-you are the best. Our mission couldn't happen without you!

“Since I first heard of Operation Walk and it’s mission, I knew I had to be a part of it. My role in Operation Walk was officially a general volunteer, but we are all volunteers. We all give our time, our energy, and our hearts. You all do amazing things and you inspired me every day. The work you do in the OR, on the floors and behind the scenes is nothing less than monumental. Any time, any place, you give your all. Operation Walk is family.”

Celebrating our screening teams. Composed of a surgeon, anesthesiologist, internal medicine doctor, RN, and interpreter, these team help us to screen up to 100 patients in just a few hours.

It's their job to screen patients both orthopedically and medically to see if they are a candidate for surgery. More importantly, they are able to get to know potential patients and discover their personal story that brought them to our clinic.

Thank you team for your professionalism and humanity!

Today, we want to thank those who are often behind the scenes during our Operation Walk trips.

Volunteers in Central Processing-making sure that our teams have the proper equipment and that is is properly sterilized for each surgery. Without the hard word and dedication of these volunteers-these life changing surgeries would not be possible!

Thank you for your tireless efforts and being the backbone of our organization.

Today we look at our volunteers who work with Operation Walk patients after their surgeries.

Our nurses, physical therapists, translators, and volunteers help patients and their families learn what's next on the road to recovery, help manage their pain, their fears, and their uncertainties, help them to gain the strength needed to return to their homes, and give them advice on the best way to heal.

This week we are celebrating the teams that make up the core of Operation Walk! Monday is dedicated to the surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, physician assistants, technicians, and implant reps that work tirelessly in the OR to make each surgery go seamlessly.

Often there are four operating rooms running simultaneously, that have four to five surgeries a day. We also remember that without our pre and post operative nurses and internal medicine doctors these surgeries would not be possible! We thank these volunteers for working long hours (often 14 to 16 hours a day) to make these life changing surgeries happen.

Closing out this month of giving with Gratitude:

"Today I want to pause for a moment to express what I feel.
I consider you part of my people, because you have been here when we needed it most. I love you and respect you with all my heart.

Perhaps you don’t always realize it, but your presence in my country has meant so much more than any material help. You have come regardless of the weather, the epidemiological challenges, the lack of electricity or fuel. You have stood by us in the midst of adversity, and that is something I will never forget.

What I value most is the sincere solidarity you have shown. That selfless gesture, that way of planting love, is what fills me with hope. And with love I respond, because what is born from the heart is never lost.

Thank you for reminding me that unity and empathy are stronger than any obstacle."

Sharing smiles from these gorgeous ladies. Often there is a lot of time spent waiting both before and after surgery for our patients. Our volunteer, Diane, brought out the polish and helped our patients spend their down-time getting pampered. Thank you, Diane, for helping our patients feel so special!

Operation Walk-The First Step into a New Life

Operation Walk is a volunteer organization that provides free surgery to patients that have no access to care for arthritis or other bone and joint conditions.
