Creating safer spaces — online and offline — starts with changing the narrative.
Through the Youth 4 Inclusion, Equality & Trust regional project, UNFPA joined forces with the Association of Journalists of Kosovo to bring together voices from the media, academia, youth, and international community to address gender-based hate speech and its impact.
The event opened space for a powerful exchange on how harmful narratives shape public perception and how media can actively promote equality. Women journalists shared firsthand experiences of harassment and online attacks, underlining the urgent need for stronger support systems and inclusive newsroom practices.
As part of this initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with AGK, committing local media outlets to dedicate space to stories that counter hate speech and misinformation. Young journalists participating in the Academy for Journalists and Journalism Students were also celebrated for their contribution to ethical and peace-oriented reporting.
These efforts form part of the joint UNFPA–UNDP implementation of the Youth 4 Inclusion, Equality & Trust project, with generous support from the ., aiming to foster more inclusive, respectful, and gender-sensitive media environments in Kosovo.
