📸More moments from Tanzania! Our second year PA students have had an unforgettable few weeks in Shirati - from sharing smiles at the Disabled Children’s Day event (huge thanks to and all who donated toys - the kids LOVED them!) to hands on learning in the OR with more C-sections, wound debridements, skin grafts, laparotomies with end colostomy / ileostomy, and more.

💬Mornings with Dr. Chirangi and the rest of the team brought powerful clinical discussions, while outreach events tackled rising rates of hypertension & diabetes in the community.

🌅Sunset hikes, a Serengeti safari🐘, and the gorgeous waters of Zanzibar🌊 helped wrap up this eye-opening, heart-filling global health experience. We are so grateful for every moment!

After an 80-hour travel day, some of our second-year students finally arrived in Shirati—greeted with warmth and open arms! In just the first two and a half weeks, they’ve already made a big impact: delivering countless babies, first-assisting on C-sections, a splenectomy, wound debridements, and an exploratory laparotomy. They also participated in a special event for children with disabilities and joined a community outreach around Lake Victoria, offering education, screenings, and treatment for Schistosomiasis. We were also able to donate three full bags of medical supplies, including broad-spectrum antibiotics like Zosyn and Imipenem, as well as a large bag of toys for the pediatric ward and the disabled children’s clinic.
Outside the hospital, they’ve been soaking in the local culture—hiking Oboke Hill and to Lake Victoria, playing ultimate frisbee and soccer with locals, exploring the vibrant market, and all the baby animals!
They’re learning so much from the people and culture, and are deeply grateful for this opportunity.

One of our 2nd year students Krystal had the opportunity to travel to Nepal for an altitude medicine elective with Blue Ridge Adventure Medicine. The group taught wilderness medicine workshops and visited various clinics in the Himalayas as they trekked to Everest Base Camp. 🏔️
