When assessing a face, my first priority is to help it look less angry, tired or grumpy (‘resting b*tch face’ becomes more common as you age).

Once I’ve achieved that, I get to play with balance and symmetry. I frequently marvel at how small changes, like straightening a nose’s profile, rejuvenate one’s visage.

How long does filler last in the lips?

Honestly, it depends on YOU.

Because Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in human connective tissue, the rate at which it breaks down depends very much on how your body treats all the other hyaluronic acid in your body!

This ‘after’ photo was taken *one year* following this patient’s last lip filler treatment with me. Her lip journey started in 2021, followed by annual top ups with dermal filler. In this instance, I would have been happy to send her on her way with no top up, because the effect was still 👌🏼 - even after 12 months!
However, the patient had other ideas, and made sure she didn’t leave without getting a little extra pump. 😉👄

On the other end of the spectrum, I have another patient who absolutely loves how dermal filler enhances her lip volume, but has to revisit me *every three months*, because her body absorbs the filler far more quickly. 😫 (I have tried 10 different fillers, but the results are always the same.)

I generally advise patients that the effect will last between 6 and 9 months.

This is a showing lip rejuvenation with dermal filler. The ‘after’ pic was taken immediately after the treatment. As you can see, there is minimal swelling and no obvious bruising. This is not the norm.

Bruising and swelling after lip filler is common. I tell all my patients to expect it. Thankfully, this time, we got lucky 🍀

The risk can be reduced by stopping alcohol/omega supplements/anti-inflammatory meds 5 days before your treatment.

This is an example of the effect of dermal filler in the mid-face. Note the improved volume and overall sense of refreshment in this already beautiful face.

Even if you were born with the rosiest, plumpest, peach-pink cheeks that Disney could imagine, this fullness and healthy curve will sink and droop over time. ( ) The net effect of time’s relentless assault on your face is an overall impression of weariness.

When Henry Thoreau wrote “To be awake is to be alive”, he was making a connection between consciousness and true vitality. But sometimes - even if your gusto has deserted you temporarily - just appearing more energetic can do the trick until your morning coffee kicks in, and returns the spring in your step.

As you can see this is me standing amongst the beautiful Dahlias. What a breathtaking way to end a holiday!

If 2023 could be summed up in one word for me, it would be ‘tilling’.

“Tilling is the practice of aerating the soil to permit moisture and air to permeate, allowing seeds to germinate, encouraging root growth, controlling w**d growth, and integrating fertilisers into the soil.”

Growth is hard. But it glorious and I welcome it.

Firstly, credit to Abdu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi who many historians believe invented the first solid lipstick. A dab of colour really compliments this before photo.

This patient has Parry-Romberg Syndrome otherwise known as progressive hemifacial atrophy.

This is a rare condition where the soft tissue (muscle + fat) on one side of the face gradually wastes away.

When I met her, I was struck by her resilience and sense of inner calm. She was not the victim in her life story; instead, by booking an appointment with us, she was being proactive and taking control of her healing process.

After multiple successful procedures with her plastic surgeon, I got to do the finishing touches and balance out her chin. What a privilege.

I love my . Her designs are timeless, inspired by ancient vessels and have a raw quality to their beauty.

This one is the perfect ornament to adorn my reception area.

Staring at it this morning, I got to thinking about the difference between an ornament (like Jade's vase) and an instrument (like the pottery tools that created the vase)
I think that we often mistake our bodies as ornaments rather than instruments. Ornaments are primarily positioned to be enjoyed by others. Whereas instruments are used to create. If we care for our body in a way that makes it stronger and more efficient, then we're able to enjoy more of what life has to offer us.

Of course, we live in a visual culture, and more often than not, how we look is part of the our utility as agents in the world. But my encouragement is to always to love your body more for what it does than for how it looks.

Volume loss under the 👀 makes us look tired. It doesn’t matter if you regularly get 8 hours of deep sleep, this sign of ageing will always make you look less perky.

This patient is a superb candidate for undereye filler.

I am grateful that she was happy to let me post this image without covering her eyes so you can appreciate the full effect.

This beautiful human made an appointment with me to have threads done.

After discussing that she is not a good candidate for threads, we decided to do some tweaking and spruce her up for an upcoming holiday. I just love how refreshed she looks!

WRT threads, they can have incredible results, but they can't be used on everyone. Threads are to sagging jowls what a b**b tube top is to sagging breasts. If the sagging is minimal, then effects can be quite striking, but once things have progressed to a certain point, you need to employ more serious countermeasures 😉

In this Instagram age we are told we have to grab someone’s attention immediately or they will lose interest and move on. And yet any connoisseur would agree that the most sort after beauty is that which subtly reveals itself.

This beautiful young lady is a perfect example of the “less is more” principle. She wanted a small change in her lip volume that would bring balance rather than drawing attention.

A touch of filler can beautifully soften a hollow upper eyelid, also called an “A-frame deformity”.

Notice how filler under the tail of the eyebrow has also created a lift.

Not everyone is a good candidate for filler in this tricky area, SO it's important to choose an experienced doctor to perform this treatment.

It’s seldom I get such a beautiful comparison of the exact same treatment (same type + amount of filler) in a mom and daughter who are the carbon copy of each other.

20+ more years of ageing has resulted in the mom losing more volume from her mid-face, which would have supported the undereyes in her youth. Extra filler is needed in the Pyriform fossa (where the nose & nasolabial fold meet) and in the deep fat pad below the eye to roll back the effect of those extra years and achieve a look closer to her daughter's facial tone.

The nasolabial folds become more prominent as we age. In our 20’s and 30’s it can look normal to completely erase them.

From the 40’s onwards the focus is to soften these lines rather than erasing them altogether.

This beauty was intrigued to see what her nose would look like if I made it a little straighter.

Whilst she was gorgeous before the treatment, the touch of dermal filler in her nose helped to streamline her side profile.

Being able to share something like this is such a privilege. Sadly, most of my patients who seek the treatments to correct nose shape, carry so much shame after years of teasing, that I don’t even ask them permission to share images. But in this instance, my patient was having fun, and enjoying the transformation, so she didn’t mind me sharing her images with all of you.

I find it remarkable how a simple treatment like this can boost self acceptance.

Acne scarring 101: Always start with subcision for depressed scars.

Once the collagen bands tethering the skin to the deeper tissues, have been loosened, you will see a better response to further treatments.

These images are taken before and after subcision followed by 2 treatments with dermal filler.

Notice the improvement in skin quality too 🤩 My patient used a prescription strength retinol cream as part of our management plan.
