Using a Hoberman Sphere to Teach Belly Breathing

Kids often respond best to visuals—and the Hoberman sphere is a favourite in my therapy room. It expands and contracts just like the belly should during slow, calming breaths.

Try this at home:

- Hold the sphere.

- Inhale slowly as you expand it.

- Exhale gently as you close it.

- Repeat 5–10 times.

This simple routine can help your child regulate their emotions, reduce anxiety, and build a lifelong skill for managing stress.

Remember: You don’t need fancy tools to teach mindfulness—but a fun visual can make it click.

Do you already use breathing techniques with your child? Let me know below!

Three Time Management Tips

1. Set Boundaires
Protect your time and energy by not taking on more than you want/need to. Know your limits and say no.

2. The 5-Minute Rule
If you can complete the task in 5 minutes or less, do it now!

3. Eat the Frog First
Identify the most challenging task and do it first thing in the morning.

Tips for Virtual Therapy:

1. Before your session, gather your chosen tech: phone, iPad, laptop, etc. Ensure that your battery is full or have access to your charger. If it's your first session, check to see if your therapist gave you any specific advice regarding logging on, ex. since I use Jane, I suggest that clients have Chrome downloaded. Check to see if you need to enable any permissions for your mic or camera.

2. Make sure you have a comfortable and private place to talk openly. Feel free to bring a drink, snack, blanket, notebook, fidget, etc.

3. Consider using headphones to help reduce distraction and to improve audio quality. If you are having trouble during your session, don't hesitate to communicate that to your therapist.
