This is the most important message you'll see from me this year.

If you’re planning to get a massage in 2022, you should schedule them all now.

Yes, NOW.

It may sound excessive, but hear me out…

The vast majority of massage recipients in Ontario (an estimated 75-85%) pay for their massages through extended health insurance. For most people, insurance coverage expires at the end of December.

What does this mean?

Every fall, without fail, thousands of Ontarians check their benefits balance and decide to schedule multiple massages in the final quarter of the year. This makes it virtually impossible to get an appointment. Before you know it, we will be fully booked for the year with a mile-long waiting list.

We normally avoid the high-pressure sales approach, but we want to give you fair warning so you can plan ahead. Whether you choose us or any other massage therapist, you’ll want to schedule your massages through December as soon as you can.

You always have up until 48 hours before hand to cancel if needed. It’s better to have a massage you don’t need than to need a massage you can’t get!

Think of magnesium as the relaxation mineral. Anything that is tight, irritable, crampy, and stiff — whether it is a body part or an even a mood — is a sign of magnesium deficiency.⁣

This critical mineral is actually responsible for over 300 enzyme reactions and is found in all of your tissues — but mainly in your bones, muscles, and brain. You must have it for your cells to make energy, for many different chemical pumps to work, to stabilize membranes, and to help muscles relax.⁣

The reason we are so deficient is simple: Many of us eat a diet that contains practically no magnesium — a highly-processed, refined diet that is based mostly on white flour, meat, and dairy (all of which have no magnesium).⁣

When was the last time you had a good dose of sea vegetables (seaweed), nuts, greens, and beans? If you are like most Americans, your nut consumption mostly comes from peanut butter, and mostly in chocolate peanut butter cups.⁣

Much of modern life conspires to help us lose what little magnesium we do get in our diet. ⁣

Magnesium levels are decreased by excess alcohol, salt, coffee, phosphoric acid in colas, profuse sweating, prolonged or intense stress, chronic diarrhea, excessive menstruation, diuretics (water pills), antibiotics and other drugs, and some intestinal parasites. ⁣

If you’re going to incorporate a magnesium supplement, the most absorbable forms are magnesium citrate, glycinate taurate, or aspartate, although magnesium bound to Kreb cycle chelates (malate, succinate, fumarate) are also good.⁣

COVID 19 & Massage Therapy Update -

First of all we would like to thank all our valued patients for their support and patience over the last two months. These have been confusing times and we would like to clarify as much as we can about the announcement made recently and how it pertains to our massage clinic, A Hands on Approach.
On Wednesday, May 27th the Ontario Government and the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health have provided a new directive for Regulated Health Professionals (RHPs) that allow for a gradual restart of services to be carried out with adherence to guidance from each health profession’s regulatory college. The directive includes Naturopathic Doctors, Physiotherapists and Registered Massage Therapists under the guidance of their Colleges. I want to clarify that this announcement was a general statement which means not all RHPs will be opening at the same time or at the same rate (or at all, for now).
At this time our College, (College Massage Therapists of Ontario), are not expecting RHPs to return to practice if they do not feel it is appropriate or safe to do so. We are also encouraged to limit the number of in-person visits by prioritizing patients with essential care needs. Treatment is considered essential when: the patient’s overall health or function would considerably decline if treatment were not provided. Our first priority at A Hands on Approach is to the health and safety of ourselves, our families and our patients and to ensure that the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks.
We have made changes and improvements in our clinic on practices and procedure guidelines to open safely. These include, but are not limited to, the pre-screening of patients before every treatment, increased frequency of hand washing & cleaning practices, increased signage, documentation and record keeping of practices, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks for myself and patient, and additional health & safety training. We have also added a paper towel dispenser and motion sensor light switch in the bathroom. We have rearranged the furniture in the waiting room to maximise the distance between chairs. We are looking into an ultraviolet light to add to our HVAC system to improve air quality.
Mélodie & Chris Porter RMT’s look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Breanne Kallonen

Today I want to share with you why it is so important to ensure optimal magnesium levels.

Magnesium is needed for over 600 reactions in the body including the metabolism of food, the transmission of nerve impulses, the synthesis of fatty acids and proteins, muscle movements, gene maintenance, and protein formation!

Unfortunately, studies note that about 50% of the people in the United States, Canada and Europe get far less than the recommended amount of magnesium.

We suffer from magnesium deficiency because magnesium levels in soil are lower than they used to be. In addition, the use of chemicals such as fluoride and chlorine in water make magnesium less available. Daily use of sugar and caffeine, as well as the abundance of wifi signaling, also depletes magnesium supplies within the body. If you live a high-stress life, it is likely that you are magnesium deficient. YIKES thats 99% of my clients right there.
A magnesium deficiency can lead to a range of chronic health issues including:
✅Blood sugar issues
✅ Depression
✅ Anxiety
✅ Heart health
✅ Migraines
✅ PMS
✅ Brain fog
This is why I created Unicorn P**p! A combo of 2 forms of magnesium. I take it everyday mixed in water and add it to smoothies to ensure my kids get their daily dose (link in bio)
