What we know, and what we think we know can sometimes be divided by a fine line.
It is an important and often over looked consideration, which is why the word 'idiopathic' used in medicine seems absurd.
This is a big part of what I love about the holistic approach. It isn't scientifically self limiting, and is commonly understood that there can be many causes to a single symptom or disease. If you don't have an answer, theres almost always someone that does.
The future we should look forward to is one of integrative medicine.. why?
The most common modern medical approaches to treatment of acute/chronic (internal) disease is to try and stabilize the (visceral) dysfunction via pharmaceutical or surgical intervention. This is life saving and absolutely makes sense short term!
However a few out of many blindspots are whether the body is healthy enough to accept or retain certain treatments, short or long term. Also the explorations at the cause of dysfunction can be quite superficial than required because of limited knowledge in other scopes of practice, limited use of resources, and if there is no identifiable life threatening causes the case is cast aside without any given direction on where else to go for help.
Chinese medicine and Osteopathy should be offered in emergency rooms/outpatients of the future to aid in treatments of non life threatening emergencies (which account for most hospital visits), because they excel in treating pain, and correcting musculoskeletal problems, without the use of costly and potentially harmful drugs.
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are great for treatment of both acute and chronic dysfunction/pain. So good that McMaster University has a hand in Acupuncture training 👇🏻
