Many patients with PCOS have difficulty getting pregnant on their own. Unlike women who ovulate and have a period every month, women with PCOS often don't ovulate in a predictable fashion (or at all) and therefore may have fewer opportunities to become pregnant.

However, there are very effective lifestyle changes, medications, and basic, low-tech treatments for PCOS that increase your chances of ovulation each cycle. In fact, of all conditions known to contribute to infertility, PCOS is one of the easiest to fix.

“The best recommendation I have for patients is to listen to their bodies throughout the treatment cycle to guide their levels of activity,” shares Dr. Shah. “There are many low-impact activities that you may find helpful throughout treatment like walking, stationary weights, leisurely cycling, and stretching.”

Less than 25% of physicians in the surgical specialties are women. Exciting times and a big win for the Lone Star State! House Bill 1649 was recently passed and signed by Governor Greg Abbott stating that insurers will be required to pay for fertility preservation for cancer patients starting January 1, 2024. Texas is now the 14th state to provide fertility preservation coverage!

SGF Houston's Dr. Janet Bruno-Gaston comments on the big announcement, "The passing of this legislation represents a huge step forward to improve the access and utilization of fertility preservation services."

June is Men’s Health Month, and we’re shining a light on male fertility. Did you know that male favorite is the cause of infertility in 40 to 50 percent of couples? So today, we’re chatting about the three key factors of a semen analysis, the first step in testing for male infertility: volume, concentration, and motility.

“Multiplying these three numbers together gives you the total number of moving s***m in that day’s ejaculate,” shares SGF reproductive urologist Dr. Russell Hayden. “This total motile s***m count is the most predictive parameter for natural conception rates and for intrauterine insemination (IUI) success.”
