A baby, who was born unable to swallow, should be home in Grand Junction for Christmas. His mother credits Dr. Steve Rothenberg at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. Dr. Rothenberg, who pioneered this minimally invasive technique nearly 20 years ago, repaired the life threatening condition through just three tiny incisions.

The flu is hitting people hard in Colorado, just in time for the holidays. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), 438 people have been hospitalized with influenza this year. That is three and a half times higher than this time last year. “We do recommend everybody getting the flu vaccine,” said hospitalist Dr. Kristine Appel at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. “The vaccine can still help shorten the duration of illness and make the illness less severe,” adds Appel.

A few months ago, Dr. Jaren Riley, pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, took part in a unique journey of wearing a scoliosis brace for a full week, 18 hours a day.

He has performed hundreds of scoliosis surgeries on children. He has the privilege of meeting and helping brace young individuals and families who confront this deforming disease every day. A critical point in the care of scoliosis is when a curve has gotten worse, and a decision must be made about how to try to stop the curve with non-operative means. This means the family comes face-to-face with the dreaded scoliosis brace. The fear of a brace, its discomfort, social stigma and appearance, is a big fear for most patients. He knows the data from every study on scoliosis, but the more he sees the challenges faced by his young patients, the more he realizes there’s so much more he doesn’t know about the experience of wearing the scoliosis brace. He no longer feels like he can ask for their trust in this area without having walked a mile in their shoes, or lived for a week in their brace.

Congratulations to former patient Christine Lentz for hitting the slopes again for the first time since nearly losing her life four years ago. Christine lost all four limbs due to sepsis, but thanks to the amazing team at Colorado Limb Consultants at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center, she is able to hit the slopes again- - and we couldn't be happier!

Before you learn to ski, you've got to take the green trails, but one skier found herself back on the bunny slope even after skiing for 40 years.

A man is more susceptible to complications than a woman, plus his immune system might be naturally weaker. Hear more from Tara O'Connor, nurse practitioner at Englewood Family Physicians at Swedish Medical Center.

ST. JOHN'S Newfoundland -- Don't doubt it: "Man flu" is real, or so says a Canadian researcher who was "tired of being accused of overreacting." With many respiratory diseases, a man is more susceptible to complications than a woman, plus his immune system might be naturally weaker, according to res...

After hours of searching, Lee Brooke finally spotted the elk he’d downed the day before. He trudged on, coming within 15 feet of the bull when he froze. The carcass had been moved, covered with brush abundant in the remote Wyoming backcountry. “Grizzly,” the veteran hunter thought. As he turned to run, Lee caught a glimpse of the enraged sow as it charged to protect its claimed meat and cubs.

Lee was brutally attacked by the bear, transported off the mountain via helicopter to a small Wyoming town, and then flown by plane to Swedish Medical Center.

Check out this FOX-31 Denver segment to hear his amazing story!

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Coming face to face with a grizzly bear and living to tell the story -- it’s something movies are made of, but this is no movie. Doctors at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood are being credited with saving a man whose face was torn off by a grizzly bear. Lee Brooke was hunting...
