Dr. Alessio Fasano is a practicing gastroenterologist and research scientist at Harvard whose interest is in gluten-related disorders like gluten sensitivity, wheat allergy and celiac disease. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Scientific American, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, Bloomberg News and many other high profile media resources.
Inflammation plays a role in brain related disorders. Gluten serves to initiate and perpetuate this process. Dr. Fasano focuses on the specifics of the biochemistry related to gluten’s detrimental effects. He discusses how gluten in the diet increases the permeability of the bowel wall (leaky gut). And it is this permeability that allows a variety of normally excluded products access to the bloodstream. So things like bacteria, proteins, and viruses that normally would have been prevented from entering the bloodstream gain access when the gut becomes leaky as a consequence of gluten exposure.

Pineal gland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Melatonin is known as a potent antioxidant as well as the hormone responsible for maintaining our circadian rhythm and healthy sleep cycles. As an antioxidant, melatonin was shown to protect cells and their fragile DNA from the damaging effects of both low and high frequency radiation, according to current research.
Research note: Melatonin Protects Human Cells from Clustered DNA Damages, Killing and Acquisition of Soft Agar Growth Induced by X-rays or 970 MeV/n Fe ions.
The DocRoy bottom line: sleep well, at least 7 hours a night so your Pineal gland produces a good amount of melatonin. Many say that you may sleep better if your bed is arranged with your head north and feet south, as opposed to east west. Below is info on the pineal gland.

The pineal gland (also called the pineal body, epiphysis cerebri, epiphysis, conarium or the "third eye") is a small endocrine gland in the vertebratebrain. It produces the serotonin derivative melatonin, a hormone that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns and seasonal functions.[1][2] Its…

In a recent study, curcumin, the gold colored extract from the root spice turmeric, was shown to suppress metastasis in prostate cancer through the regulation of the cytokines CXCL1, CXCL2 and NFκB.

You know you’re getting old when you have trouble remembering simple words like... uh...
As we age, our capacity to maintain systemic antioxidant defenses and the ability to counteract the cell-damaging effects of reaction oxygen species rapidly declines. Free radicals can be very injurious to delicate cellular components including DNA and mitochondria.
The R form of alpha lipoic acid has been shown to play a role in increasing these defenses, helping to prevent injury to mitochondria and thus improving the function of these cellular power plants.

Osteocalcin is a vitamin K-dependant protein which plays a significant role in bone formation and mineralization. This protein must first be activated or carboxylated by vitamin K in order for it to perform its bone building functions.
Interestingly, researchers have found that there may be a correlation between high amounts of uncarboxylated osteocalcin and weight gain in post-menopausal women. Higher vitamin K status produces higher levels of carboxylated osteocalcin which researchers found to be associated with lower body weight, BMI and fat mass of the midsection in post-menopausal women.

Another study has been published touting the significant cancer-protective properties of consuming broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables. This family of vegetables contains compounds that have been shown to help increase the metabolism of those fractions of estrogen that have been associated with cell proliferation and subsequent cancer formation.

The impressive benefits of vitamin D supplementation keep rolling in as the sunshine vitamin has been shown to positively impact eye health in animal models of age-related macular degeneration. It does this by decreasing levels of amyloid beta and inflammation, two markers of eye disease progression.

The studies show that vVitamin D rejuvenates aging eyes by reducing inflammation, clearing amyloid beta and improving visual function.
