Chemo Round 21. Time to hit this sucka with a one-two punch.
About a year ago, a good friend Gina Duffy , advised me to change my “to” to a “for”. At first I didn’t understand what she meant. She said “don’t ask why this is happening “to” you, but instead ask why this is happening “for” you.
When I first was diagnosed, I was reminded of her words, but I couldn’t relate it to what was happening “to” me now; it took some soul searching to understand why this was happening “for” me.
Here’s what I discovered, before my diagnosis, there were things in my life that I was unhappy about. Everyday I would say to myself “today is the day, I’m going to change that...”, but I never got around to it or just didn’t want to address the problem. I let it eat me up inside like a cancer, because of my fear of making that change. Now that I am facing my hardest challenge, I am finding strength in making those changes. This is happening “for” me because it’s my chance to change. I’ve learned that everyday we are given is truly a blessing and an opportunity to find more happiness. Making small changes, like changing a simple word like a “to” to “for” can empower you to make positive changes in your life. Find your strength by trying to change the way you describe the challenges life will present to you. Try it and let me know if it helps. Thank you Gina 🙏
Hi everyone, thank you so much for sending so much positivity and love my way. I can’t tell you how much Rachel and I appreciate all of the amazing people in our lives. For those

To all that have served and made the ultimate sacrifice, thank you.
Hi! I hope this post finds you safe and well. I am writing because I could use your help to determine when to reopen the practice. As of now, I am considered an Emergency Essential Worker, which means I am allowed to see patients that need emergency care only. As the Shelter-In-Place restrictions begin to lighten, I need to make a determination of when and how to reopen. Right now I am asking my patients if I did reopen the practice in the next few weeks, would you be willing to return to care. I would love to hear from you, so if you have a minute, please reach out to me and let me know how you are doing and whether or not you would be interested in returning to the practice in the next weeks. I appreciate any feedback you are willing to share. Thank you in advance and please stay safe.
Proper ribcage and diaphragm function are vital to our health and wellbeing. In these crazy unprecedented times, now more than ever, I believe it’s important to keep our respiratory system optimized. I was interviewed by Wendy Shulman this week and discussed some basic exercises to keep our ribcage moving while we are stuck in quarantine. Please check out the link on my IG profile page.
Dr. Arnold Weg was my primary care doctor for years and when I started my practice 17 years ago, he gave me some incredible advice that helped me get through the early years of my practice. He has helped my wife Rachel for years, and I'm so grateful for his care of her. He is in the ICU with Covid-19 because of his dedication to his patients. Please pray for him and please, I ask you to stay home. We can get through this if we help each other by staying home.

Let’s talk . . . DIAPHRAGM . . . Deep breath in, deep breath out . . . . . continue for five breaths to recenter in the moment before reading on . . 🧘🏻♂️ Our diaphragm separates the thoracic and abdominal cavities, attaching to the upper lumbar spine, ribs 7-12 and xiphoid process of the sternum. The double-doom sheet muscle assists us in every inhalation and exhalation, contracting and lowering on our inhale, and relaxing and rising on our exhale. Other functions include: lumbar stabilization by increasing intra-abdominal pressure, and aids in digestion by massaging the intestines.
In life, the position and shape depend on the phases of respiration, position of the body and the degree of distention of our visceral organs. However, it happens to be forgotten when discussing core strength. Over the next couple weeks focus will be put onto this primary muscle of respiration.
Stay tuned‼️

It's quite common that back pain is not a back problem, but an overall movement issue.
It's quite common that back pain is not a back problem, but an overall movement issue.
Health Tips: When creating fitness-based goals, understand what you want and what your body needs, may differ. Work with a movement expert to help you determine a safe and effective way to achieve both.
Quality movement starts with proper breathing. The diaphragm is our primary respiratory muscle and one of the most important parts of our core.
Health Tip: If your New Year’s Resolutions involve your physical fitness, focus your attention on improving the QUALITY of your movement, not the QUANTITY you move. This is very difficult to assess yourself; ask a certified Personal Trainer for help.
Another reason to include exercise in your New Year’s Resolutions.

It was a pleasure teaching this great group of Equinox trainers. I'm looking forward to part 2 of this knee injury workshop series. Thank you for inviting me to work with your trainers. 📸
Conscious Movement:
In today’s video, acupuncturist, Dr. Jeff Chen (), is teaching Dr. Salinas () and Dr. LoTempio () the fundamentals of Tai Chi training. This exercise is focused on controlled lateral movement in the frontal plane. Each small movement requires intention and focus.
As humans we take advantage of our innate ability to move and breathe without focus and/or awareness of the quality of our movements. However as we age or get injured, our movement patterns change, ultimately leading to poorer movement patterns and possibly further injuries. Practicing Tai Chi can help to re-establish and reconnect our body and mind to restore better movement patterns.
Although this exercise may look simple and easy, trust me, it takes a tremendous effort and focus in order to execute these movements properly. Remember, practice doesn’t make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.
Made it to Hudson Yards for our brief Forum talk on common knee injuries. Looking forward to our in depth three part series in December!
