'Tis the season when there will be many people traveling for the holidays, spending time with family or simply getting away. Whether by air, land, or sea, travel can sometime affect one's gut health, and the occasional bout with constipation.

Should you find yourself in this situation, health journalist Alyssa Hui asked some medical experts about what to do. Find out by clicking here: https://bit.ly/4hQsOr5 One of the experts sited is GANJ's own Dr. Joseph Shami.

We just can't stress it enough: colon cancer is an equal opportunity killer but also one of the most preventable of cancers. If you're due for a screening -- every 5 years for those not at high risk, starting at age 45 -- then please make an appointment today. 888.452.0022 ganjllc.com

If you have a family history of colon cancer or there are other factors that might make you a high-risk candidate, discuss your situation with your doctor. Do it for yourself; do it for those you care about.

Diwali, the “festival of lights” observed by those of the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain faiths, celebrates the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness. How important this message is for all of us today. To those suffering physically or mentally, we encourage you to reach out for help. To those blessed with good health, be a light for someone in need.

To everyone celebrating Diwali--including our doctors, staff, patients and neighbors--may your life be filled with love, light, and happiness.

Happy Halloween 2024
It's Halloween, and kids dressed up as a scary creature 👺 👹 or their favorite action hero 🚀 is a big part of the tradition. For some adults too. We encourage parents and guardians to take simple steps to ensure that whatever treats your child gets this Halloween doesn't result in harmful affects. For example:
👻 🎃 👹
* Remind your child of any food allergies he or she might have.
* Sort through the loot of candy before they devour any of it, and discard whatever looks questionable (Beware of inappropriate gummies!)
* Avoid "sugar-free" candy with artificial sweeteners; they are not gut-friendly.

The City of Brotherly Love is currently hosting the Annual Scientific Meeting & Postgraduate Course conference, and several GANJ physicians are there. Gatherings like these offer a rare chance to step away from the day-to-day demands, enabling colleagues to reconnect and learn new insights together,

Dr. Aakash Aggarwal, who is there along with others from the GANJ team, commented that: "It's so important to keep abreast of the latest developments in the world of GI to provide the latest cutting-edge care to our patients." Another exciting opportunity for GANJ to mix with our patients, neighbors and other friends in the community as the "GANJ@15" team took part in this past weekend's "Little Falls 5K Spooky Sprint." Our team of walkers and runners included providers, management and office staff, a neighbor and three pooches.

Gas in your digestive system is part of the normal process of digestion. Too much, however, can cause stomach pain. It's annoying. It's embarrassing. It reduces your quality of life. But, depending upon what causes it, excess gassiness can also be controlled.

Here are some steps you can take:
* Eat and drink slowly. Taking your time can help you swallow less air.
* Avoid carbonated drinks and beer. They release carbon dioxide gas.
* Skip the gum and hard candy.
* Don't smoke.
* Get moving.
* Treat heartburn.

If you find this still doesn't resolve matters, it might be time to speak with a GI specialist. Contact one of GANJ's 50 gastroenterologists for a consultation. Simply call 888.452.0022 or visit us online at ganjllc.com

Our thanks to Mikhail, patient of Dr. Ariy Volfson at his Woodland Park office, for the 5-star rating and kind comments recently posted. We encourage all our patients to share their stellar reviews of our providers following their visit to a GANJ office. All of our doctors and staff (28 offices throughout NJ) are dedicated to providing exemplary service. But it's a team effort and we appreciate patients who understand how important their role is in the care process.
