🍎✏️ Back to School Blessings ✏️🍎

Here at Signature, we’re sharing first day of school photos from our own families — a sweet reminder of the incredible educators, staff, and school leaders who pour so much into our children. 💛

While children across our community were lining up for their “back to school” snapshots this week, our friends at Springlake Assisted Living were having a picture day of their own — and it was every bit as special.

Residents dressed in their best, hair perfectly in place, smiles ready. Some posed solo, beaming with pride, while a few sweet lovebirds leaned in close for their portraits. In those moments, the room was full of laughter, twinkling eyes, and stories only time can tell.

A Local Legend, A Personal Journey💙

If you’ve lived in our community for any length of time, you likely know the name Joe Watson. As a beloved educator and the photographer behind countless cherished moments—little league games, fireworks shows, and school events—Joe has spent years behind the lens, capturing the heart of our town.

Recently, Joe’s story took a turn when he was diagnosed with cancer at the base of his tongue. The treatment was intense—grueling rounds of chemo and radiation left him weak, dehydrated, and unable to eat. After a hospital stay, Joe knew he needed continued care, but he wanted to be home.

That’s when he called Signature.

Having previously trusted our hospice team for a family member, Joe and his family asked for someone by name: Jade, his brother-in-law’s former hospice nurse. From that moment on, she became part of his care—and his story.

"Jade has seen me through it all," Joe shared. "She answers every question, watches my medications, and makes sure I’m gaining weight. She’s prompt, personable, and never in a rush. It’s like hospital-level care—but I’m in the comfort of my own home. It’s the best of both worlds."

Joe also received speech therapy at home, a vital part of his recovery.

"My speech therapist, JanNita Daniel, is good as gold. She’s kind, and we just clicked. We have a connection. I even did a swallow test in a van right in front of my house! I had no idea that was possible!"

His wife, Amy, added:

"Eating is a social, family event. It’s important. Speech therapy has given him hope that he’ll get back to normal with food."

What truly stands out in Joe’s story isn’t just the care—it’s the connection.

“My girls know me. We joke around. They care about ME as a person, not just a patient. That means a lot. I always look forward to their visits. I can see us staying friends forever.”

Joe, thank you for trusting us with your care. It is our honor to be part of your healing process. Your strength, your story, and your legacy in this town are nothing short of inspiring, and we are all rooting for you.
