We’re proud to recognize Billie Thompson, RN, with Aspirus St. Luke’s DAISY Foundation Award for her exceptional dedication and compassionate care in hospice services.

Billie went above and beyond during an on-call shift, demonstrating extraordinary commitment to a patient and his family in a challenging end-of-life situation.

Her nominator shared that a patient in assisted living experienced a change in condition during the day. While initial end-of-life care was provided, Billie visited later that night and realized the current setup was no longer sufficient. She arranged for the patient’s transfer to Aspirus St. Luke’s for inpatient hospice care. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the patient was admitted to the ER instead.

Despite this unexpected turn, Billie stayed with the family, providing ongoing support and comfort. She continued to advocate for the patient by making medication recommendations and assisting the ER staff, remaining by their side until the very end to ensure the patient’s final moments were as peaceful and dignified as possible.

Billie’s dedication and compassionate presence had a profound impact during a difficult time, and we are incredibly proud to have her on our team at Aspirus St. Luke’s.
