The free flu vaccine will be available soon for those at risk of severe illness from the flu. This includes:

• Children from 6 months to under 5 years
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from 6 months
• Pregnant women
• People aged 65 years and over
• People with serious health conditions (including severe asthma, diabetes, cancer, immune disorders, obesity, kidney, heart, lung or liver disease)

Those eligible for the free flu vaccine should plan ahead and book an appointment now with their local GP, pharmacist or Aboriginal Medical Service to get vaccinated.

Those not eligible for a free vaccine can contact their GP or pharmacist to book an appointment to get vaccinated.

Flu is already circulating in the community, alongside COVID-19. Your best protection this winter is to get a flu shot and stay up to date with your COVID-19 vaccinations. The COVID-19 and flu vaccines can be given together at the same time.

Please note all testing clinics continue to be in high demand.

We would like to remind people to only get tested if they need to.
This includes people who:
🤒 have COVID-19 symptoms

Please read through the following post by ACT Health if you are unsure what to do should you recieve a positive rapid antigen test.

Did you get a positive rapid antigen test (RAT) result? 🧪

✅ You no longer need to get a PCR test to confirm you have COVID-19.

🩺You can usually safely manage COVID-19 at home if you:
• are under 65
• have had at least 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine (for adults)
• do not suffer from any chronic health conditions, and
• are not pregnant

🏠 Most cases we are seeing in the ACT have a mild illness and will recover in a week at home. Some people may not have any symptoms at all.

📞 Please call COVID Care@Home as soon as possible if you meet any of the criteria below that may mean you are eligible for specific treatment:
• over 20 weeks pregnant
• an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person over 55
• aged 16 years and over and unvaccinated/only had 1 dose
• significantly immunocompromised.

💻 ACT Health will have a form available shortly for you to tell us if you have had a positive RAT result. Registering will enable us to connect you to the care and advice appropriate to you.

✏️ In the meantime, please record the date of your positive RAT result and follow the advice for people who have tested positive for COVID-19, including isolating for 7 days and telling your household contacts they should complete a RAT or PCR test and isolate for 7 days www.covid19.act.gov.au/covid-positive

⚠️ If you develop severe symptoms (particularly severe headaches or dizziness, difficulty breathing, chest pressure or pain), call triple zero (000) straight away and tell the ambulance staff that you have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”
That has been the theme this year for International Day of People with Disability.
This year has been a challenge for a lot of people, especially those living with disability. It has put a spotlight on the need for a more inclusive world. Through these times we have seen just how much impact technology can have for breaking down barriers and creating more options for people living with disabilities to get involved.
What do you want to see changed moving out of COVID?
What changes have occured already that you are excitewd to see develop?

Today the ACT government announced it'll be mandatory for disability support workers and in-home and community aged care workers in Canberra to be fully vaccinated.
It was stated that staff will need to have one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by November 1, and have two doses by November the 29.

Some very important changes for the ACT - Although we are coming out of Lockdown, that does not mean all restrictions are lifted. Please read this post from ACT Health for all the details.

⚠️ Lockdown to end at 11.59pm, Thursday 14 October 2021 ⚠️

Lockdown will be lifted as of 11.59pm, Thursday 14 October 2021 and with the ACT now at over 70% of 12+ Canberrans fully vaccinated, there will be some further easing to restrictions that will come into effect as lockdown ends.

➡️ While lockdown will end a number of health directions will remain unchanged. These include:
• Masks continue to be required at all times upon leaving home, including in workplaces, if you are aged 12 years and over.
• You are required to use the Check In CBR app.
• An individual’s vaccination status does not change how the local restrictions apply in the ACT.

➡️ Restrictions that will change include:
• No more than 5 people can visit another household at any one time. This limit does not apply to children under 12 years of age.
• Up to 25 people can gather outdoors for physical or recreational activities. This includes outdoor bootcamps and personal training, as well as outdoor and contactless coaching.
• The Standing Exemption for surrounding NSW border residents will be expanded to include additional postcodes.
• Licensed venues, cafes and restaurants can operate with capacity of 25 people or density of 1 per 4 sqm for seated service indoors. Businesses can have max 50 people or 1 per 4 sqm if operating seated service outdoors only - not both.
• Funerals can have 50 people or one person per four square metres, whichever is lesser (exc. staff). This is regardless of whether the funeral is indoors or outdoors.
• Weddings can have 25 people or one person per four square metres, whichever is lesser (excluding the celebrant and one photographer). Guests must remain seated whilst eating and drinking. Dancing permitted.
• Accommodation, campgrounds, caravan parks and campsites will open, however gathering restrictions apply.
• All non-essential retail can operate a click and collect or click and deliver service. Small business can also operate by contactless means with capacity of 10 people allowed or 1 per 4 sqm, whichever is less.
• Hairdressers, beauty and personal services will open with capacity of 5 clients.
• Swimming pools can reopen with 25 people across the venue, or 1 person per four square metres, whichever is less (excluding staff). There can only be 2 swimmers per lane, and formal lessons and training is permitted to proceed, whilst adhering to the gathering restrictions.
• A gradual return to the workplace where it suits you and your employer.
• Up to two visitors per day can visit a person who is a resident of a residential aged care facility, for any reason. Visitors must be vaccinated.

➡️ And just a reminder in regards to education:
• From 18 October, Year 11 and 12 students return to on campus learning
• From 25 October, early childhood centres reopen as well as pre-school to year 2, and years 6, 9 and 10 return to on campus learning. Out of school hours care available to on campus learners.

Mental health care for all: let’s make it a reality!
Today is World Mental Health Day - This pandemic has had a drastic effect across all aspects of life. This includes mental health, as lockdowns have created greater anxiety and loneliness, while separation from friends and family has only compounded these issues. And so, during the World Health Assembly in May 2021, governments from around the world recognized the need to scale up quality mental health services at all levels. To find out more, visit -

Some very important updates for the ACT Lockdown restrictions.
Please continue to act safely and responsibly to ensure the further continued ease of restrictions.

A range of amendments to the ACT’s lockdown restrictions will come into effect from 12.01am tomorrow (1 October 2021).

One of the amendments allows two people to visit another household at any one time. Here’s what you need to know:

◾️ You may only have two visitors to your household at any one time and there is no specific time limit for visits.
◾️ This limit includes children. However, if one parent or guardian is visiting a household and has more than one child who cannot be left unattended at home, they are permitted to take them. The intention of this direction is not to allow lots of people to visit a household at one time as we continue to manage this outbreak.
◾️ If children from the same household are visiting another household for childcare purposes, then more than two children can visit at once.
◾️ Visitors do not need to be the same two people each time, but please try to minimise the number of different people coming to your house as we continue to manage the current outbreak.
◾️ You can leave your region to visit a household, however we are still trying to limit movement within the community so encourage Canberrans to stay within their region where possible.
◾️ A face mask should be worn where you are visiting someone’s home. The Public Health Direction requires people to carry a face mask and wear a face mask at all times when outside of their residence. There are exemptions to this requirement, for example when consuming food or drink or when undertaking strenuous exercise.
◾️ All visitors to homes should maintain physical distancing wherever possible.
◾️ Residents from approved postcodes in the NSW region are permitted to enter the ACT under the Standing Exemption to visit another household.
◾️ However, ACT residents are not permitted to enter approved postcodes in the NSW region under the Standing Exemption to visit another household.
◾️ If you live in NSW outside the approved postcodes, you will still need to seek an exemption to enter the ACT. You must not travel unless an exemption has been granted.

Some good news!
Ease of restrictions have been announced - Please read below for all the details.

❗❗ Today the ACT Government has released further details on the ACT pathway forward. ❗❗

The current lockdown will be lifted from 15 October, with the ACT expected to reach the threshold of 80% of 12+ Canberrans fully vaccinated around this date.

There will be a gradual and careful easing of social and business restrictions as the ACT increases its overall vaccination coverage.

This phased approach will see intervals between significant steps, to allow monitoring of the effect of changes on case numbers, providing an ability to adjust measures where required.

In line with this approach, there will be minor changes to lockdown restrictions from 12.01am Friday 1 October 2021, including:

◾ Two people will be able to visit another household at any one time, for any reason. If visiting a household for childcare purposes, more than two children can visit.
◾ One household, or up to five people, will be able to gather outdoors for exercise or non-organised recreation for up to four hours.
◾ Non-essential retail businesses will be permitted to operate click and collect or click and deliver services. No more than five people can be in the business at any one time, or one person per four square metres, whichever is less.
◾ The recommencement of outdoor bootcamps and personal training, with no more than two people, excluding instructors.
◾ The recommencement of outdoor and contactless coaching activities with no more than two people, excluding the coach.
◾ The reopening of nature reserves and National Parks for recreational purposes.
◾ The recommencement of preventative dental services.

More information on amendments to restrictions commencing this Friday from 12.01am are available here: https://www.covid19.act.gov.au/act-status-and-response/lockdown

It is International Week of Deaf People! (20/09/21 - 26/09/21)
Todays theme (22nd) is Sign Language for all deaf learners. Many deaf children are born into families that do not know sign language. That is why it is so important to make sure the best learning services are in place.
