Two of our staff went to Sugar Sugar by Laura today and were blown away. She is hands down the best sugar-er (is that how you say it?). Their location is beautiful, and right down the street from us! If you're looking at hair removal that isn't laser/electrolysis, we strongly encourage that you book an appointment there! We were both first time clients, and it hurts so much less than waxing!

Articles like this are the reason that people are fearful of tattoo removal. When done using a PicoSure or (Health Canada approved) Q-Switch laser, tattoo removal is a safe procedure. If a patient is smelling "flesh getting cooked," your technician is in no way qualified to be performing the procedure.

If you're considering removing an unwanted tattoo, you need to do your research on the clinic performing the treatment, and the machine that they're using.

Statements like this are a mockery of tattoo “Flesh is burning,”...“Whatever is in the ink bursts sometimes and will cause a scab. We’re also causing a lot of trauma to the skin while we’re doing this. So, you are smelling the flesh getting cooked because there’s a lot of energy going into that.”

The explosion in tattoo popularity has also meant an explosion in business for tattoo removers.

Mark your calendars! On Saturday November 7, Onyx Urgent Care is hosting an all-day Flu shot clinic from 12pm-9pm.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! We're super excited to announce that our building is now offering Para-Medical tattooing with specialties in ar**la regimentation.

What exactly does this mean? Ar**la repigmentation is a niche sector of medical tattooing. Ar**la pepigmentation uses specialzed tattooing techniques to re-create an ar**la or ni**le after breast reconstruction/post-masectomy, reduce the sight of scars, or restore the existing ar**la to a more natural looking color and shape.

Patients face long, ‘difficult’ ER waits in Kitchener and Cambridge

Waterloo Region Record
By Jeff Outhit

WATERLOO REGION — While three local hospitals generally provide good care, they force sick people to wait long hours to see an emergency room doctor.

Patients at Grand River Hospital in Kitchener waited almost six hours before seeing an ER doctor in 2014, according to new benchmarks. That's for 90 per cent of patients.

Patients at St. Mary's General Hospital in Kitchener typically waited more than four hours, and Cambridge Memorial Hospital patients waited almost four hours. The typical Ontario patient waits three hours to see an ER doctor.

Long ER waits emerge as among the worst local results among benchmarks recently made public by the Canadian Institute for Health Information.

Grand River says it sees the sickest ER patients first and is trying to speed the time it takes for physicians to assess patients who are not as sick. "We have some work to do for patients whose needs are less acute," Karin Olson, vice-president of clinical services, said in a statement.

To reduce wait times, Grand River is working with St. Mary's to recruit more ER doctors. It is adding discharge lounges to free up space for incoming patients, and making changes in medical imaging and ultrasound, to better handle evening surges.

St. Mary's said it is trying to ease ER bottlenecks. It recently added a hospital supervisor to help manage patient flow. "We know that it is very difficult for patients and families to continue to wait in the emergency department," Barbara Guidolen, vice-president of patient services, said in a statement.

The Record reviewed up to 15 benchmarks to find that local hospitals typically performed well for patients in 2013-14.

Local hospitals reported low readmission rates for recent patients. They reported below-average birthing complications, and below-average costs. Hospital deaths are falling over time at St. Mary's and Grand River, and are below the Ontario rate.

However, Cambridge Memorial is seeing more patients die after major surgery. The death rate, rising since 2011, reached 2.6 per cent in 2014. This exceeds the Ontario rate of 1.7 per cent which has been falling since 2011. Rates for other local hospitals are below the Ontario rate.

Cambridge Memorial said in a statement that it intends to reduce the number of deaths that follow surgery.

The Record compared three local hospitals across seven patient care benchmarks to find that St. Mary's performed the strongest, followed by Cambridge Memorial and then Grand River.

St. Mary's president Don Shilton credits "continuous quality improvement by our staff, physicians and volunteers."
