Darlene Taylor, BA, MACP, RCT-C
Darlene began her road to becoming a professional mental health counsellor in 2011 when she returned to school as a mature student. Having an array of personal life experiences, she wanted to find a way to help others in a more meaningful way. Francis Xavier University with a Joint Major in Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies, she went on to complete her Mast
ers in Counselling Psychology. Darlene later registered with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists and as a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. From there she opened her private practice. Darlene uses a common sense, client centred, and relatable approach as a clinician; drawing on a collection of frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. All of this is done from a strengths based approach, believing that each of us are resilient and capable of managing the difficult times, while maintaining hope for better days ahead. Sometimes we just need a little help getting there. Darlene recently completed EMDR training, which is a specialized treatment for the processing of trauma. This is an important tool which recognizes the role trauma past and present contributes to our world view and ability to cope with life's challenges. Offering empathy, non-judgement, reflective feedback and a safe space, Darlene is a competent, involved and very approachable counsellor. Accepting and having positive experiences with adolescents, adults, couples and seniors alike, come in and have a chat with Darlene, we know you will feel better when you do. When not working Darlene can be found pursuing her other passions - travelling, rescuing pets, and spending quality time with family. Dorothy Boutlier, BA, MACP, RCT-C
Dorothy is a recent graduate of Yorkville University’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. She has been a yoga teacher for many years and a mother for many more than that. While in school and doing her placement, Dorothy discovered with the help of clients the beauty of weaving mindfulness into the treatment plans she developed with clients. Dorothy wants the clients to be at the helm of their journey and accepts that there is no one size fits all approach to psychotherapy, therefore she uses an approach of eclectic therapy, using flexibility to meet the ever changing and individual needs of each client as they work together, drawing from several modalities including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy as well as Mindfulness practices. Dorothy has worked with clients who have depression, anxiety, ADHD, struggles with grief and a variety of other issues, her approach is very client centered and non directive and therefore client led in order to allow the client to be an equal partner in the client/therapist relationship. Dorothy believes that the key components of a therapeutic relationship should be congruence, unconditional positive regard, and accurate empathetic understanding. Dorothy’s life philosophy which is holistic and includes yoga and meditation practices has blended with her professional approach with clients, as these practices have held great meaning in her own life, especially when faced with challenges. When not working with and learning from her clients, Dorothy can be found teaching or practicing yoga, cooking with her family and friends or outside somewhere with her dogs.
