Meet Kristofer, one of our outstanding Rehabilitation Support Workers! Get to know more about him below👇

“I’m deeply passionate about helping people reach a state of physical and mental well-being, which is ultimately what inspired me to become an RSW. Working as an RSW not only allows me to help people through their recovery process, but it also allows me to build new connections and provide a sense of hope to those who might need it most. I plan on obtaining a Master of Social Work degree in the near future so that I can become a mental health counselor or a psychotherapist, so working with Health Bound has certainly provided me with some invaluable one-on-one client-focused experience which will be beneficial moving forward. I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Health Bound family.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending lots of time at the gym as fitness is a huge passion of mine. I also enjoy volunteering with the Canadian Mental Health Association and with Fitness for Mental Health, which is an organization that promotes physical fitness as a mental health treatment option. Other than that, I find joy in the simple things: playing with my dog and spending time with family and friends.”

🌟 Meet Shannon, our July spotlight! 🌟

“I chose to become an Occupational Therapist because of my longstanding desire to work in healthcare and make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. From an early age, I knew that I wanted a career that involved helping others and contributing positively to their wellbeing. Occupational therapy interested me because it combines a holistic approach to healthcare with the opportunity to assist individuals in achieving their goals and improving their daily functioning. The idea of empowering people to regain their independence, overcome challenges, and enhance their quality of life deeply resonated with me. Through the field of occupational therapy, I am able to support clients within their home environment to address their physical, cognitive and psycho-emotional needs, and ultimately help them lead a more fulfilling life.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, travelling, walking my dog, and working out.”

👟 Walking at least 6 miles a week may help preserve your memory! 🧠

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh found that older adults who walked 6-9 miles weekly had greater grey matter volume in key brain regions like the frontal cortex and hippocampus.

This increased grey matter was associated with better memory, cognitive function, and a reduced risk of dementia.

So lace up those walking shoes and get moving - your brain will thank you!

June marks Stroke Awareness Month in Canada. It’s important to be able to recognize the signs of a stroke, since acting quickly could save someone's life! To help remember the signs, think of the acronym BEFAST (Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, Time).

Balance: Sudden dizziness or difficulty walking.
Eyes: Sudden vision changes, like blurriness or double vision.
Face: Facial drooping or numbness, especially on one side.
Arms: Weakness or numbness in one arm.
Speech: Slurred speech or difficulty speaking.
Time: Act quickly and call emergency services. Every minute counts.

👋 Meet Kayli, our employee spotlight!

“I grew up playing a variety of sports and experienced multiple injuries over the years which led to an interest in anatomy. I always wanted to be in a profession where I could help people and this combined with my passions for sports and science led me to pursue a career as a chiropractor.

I enjoy educating patients about their conditions and giving them at home exercises and relief options in addition to providing hands-on manual therapy to address their pain. I enjoy working with a variety of patient populations but particularly older individuals who want to improve their strength and mobility.

Outside of work I enjoy being active through sports such as waterskiing, volleyball, and hiking. I also adore dogs and am thrilled to hear patients’ pet stories!”
