Why see a sports/soft tissue massage therapist?
Soft tissue massage treatments is not only for the young and active; it can be beneficial for individuals of all ages and activity levels.
While athletes, or those who lead active lifestyles, may use sports massage as part of their training and recovery regimen, soft tissue massage is beneficial for a very broad population.
Here are some examples why it is beneficial for a wide variety of groups:
The older population may experience increased stiffness, pain and loss of flexibility in their joints. Certain specific chronic diseases, such as Parkinsons disease can also affect strength and balance. Some of my clients come with a variety of these problems. Soft tissue massage can help to alleviate these symptoms by improving circulation, enhancing joint mobility and reducing tension.
Many occupations can cause stiffness, pain and postural difficulties. I see clients who spend long hours sitting at desk, or those with very tough physical jobs. I also see musicians who due to the posture required to play their instruments find themselves with pain and stiffness. Massage treatments aid bad posture, muscle imbalances, repetitive strain injuries and tension.
People with chronic pain suffering from conditions such as arthritis and fibromyalgia can find pain relief through soft tissue massage.
Those recovering from injury can benefit from massage as part of their rehabilitation process. It can help to reduce swelling (by using lymphatic massage techniques), improve mobility and accelerate the healing process by enhancing circulation and flexibility in the affected areas.
Everyone regardless of age or activity level can experience stress. Massage therapy is well known to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation and well-being.
In summary, sports and soft tissue massage is a versatile and holistic therapy that can offer benefits across the whole community.
