We are the colony of Phi Delta Epsilon located at UNLV School of Medicine. We have 24 founding members who are absolutely thrilled to start partnerships in our community, especially with our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Today all PhiDE members from around the world stand to raise awareness and money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. CMN treats all children regardless their ability to pay.

Meet Christy Lee Carpenter! Christy is one of our awesome new members here at UNLV SOM. She was born in Tucson, AZ, raised here in Henderson, NV, and attended USC for her undergraduate degree. Christy joined PhiDE because she wanted to be a part of an organization where she could make long lasting friendships while being involved in fun ways to serve the community! She states, “ I was sold when there were events like wine and cheese nights, as well as fundraisers for the CMN hospital here in Las Vegas.” Christy loves having a big (Kelsey Kincaid), because she always encourages her before every test and showers her with her favorite goodies like tea and essential oils. She also enjoys how staying late for PhiDE meetings allows her to socialize with her classmates while working towards our chapter’s goals. When Christy has spare time, she enjoys traveling and is always down to go to an amusement park or a vineyard. She also likes relaxing at home with her family, friends, and dog while playing board games and watching movies. Christy is interested in OB/GYN and ophthalmology, but she is open to see what other specialties interest her throughout med school. Christy states, “I am grateful to be a part of PhiDE with all of the amazing people I’ve met so far! I love to talk, so anyone feel free to call, text, or start a conversation anytime you see me!” Thank you for being a part of our Epsilon Nu family, Christy!

Meet Johnnie Maurice Woodson III! He is currently a third year medical student at UNLV SOM. Johnnie was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. Before going back to Las Vegas for medical school, he studied biochemistry at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Johnnie has been a PhiDE member for 3 years now. He was initially drawn to the family vibe of PhiDE and the friendliness of our members has kept him involved in the organization! Since becoming a member, he feels that he has greatly benefitted from the video calls from students at other medical schools. As a member of UNLV SOM’s charter class, PhiDE has allowed him to connect with upperclassmen at other schools that he can turn to for advice. Johnnie enjoys biking, playing the ukulele, watching movies, and nerding out on comic books, super heroes, cartoons, and video games in his free time! He is also a big fan of Spotify. Someday, he hopes to pursue a career in either Emergency Medicine or Neurology. Thank you for being a part of our Epsilon Nu family, Johnnie!

Meet Christian Borashan! He is currently a second year medical student here at UNLV SOM. Christian was born in Las Vegas, NV and went to UNLV for his undergraduate studies. He has been a PhiDE member at large for one year and joined PhiDE because he states that he felt drawn to our members from the class of 2021. Christian saw that they were committed to success in medical school and were also very sociable and welcoming, which are the kind of people he wanted to surround himself with. Christian states, “PhiDE has provided me with an international network of peers who understand the hardships of medical school as well as a family of fratters who support one another in professional and personal endeavors”. Outside of school, Christian loves going to concerts, hiking, and travelling to new places! He is currently undecided about his specialty. Christian remembers his favorite PhiDE memory as being able to travel to Chicago with his peers in January of 2019 for the Regional Leadership Conference and discover what -20 F weather feels like. Our fingers and toes remember that weather too, Christian… You’re not alone. Thank you for being a part of our Epsilon Nu family, Christian!

Meet Lennon Zimmerman! Lennon is currently a third year medical student here at the UNLV School of Medicine. He is from Las Vegas, NV and attend UNR for his undergraduate studies. Lennon was in PhiDE for 2 years in undergrad, and is the former VP of Recruitment here at UNLV SOM. Lennon joined PhiDE for many reasons, some of which include “having a group of people that understand the struggle of going through medical school” and having the “opportunity to be a part of the founding class at UNLV SOM”. Because Lennon and his classmates were the founding class at UNLV SOM as well as the Epsilon Nu Chapter on campus, being in PhiDE allowed him to reach out to other chapters with curriculums similar to our own. Through PhiDE they were able to receive advice on how to study and what to expect during our longitudinal integrated clerkships. Outside of PhiDE, Lennon likes to run a few times a week, and attend concerts! He is currently interested in pursuing orthopedic surgery or radiology, but is still undecided. Thank you for being a part of our Epsilon Nu family, Lennon!

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Jessica Hill! She is about to start her second year as a medical student here at the UNLV School of Medicine. She was born in Las Vegas, NV and attended UNLV for her undergraduate studies. Jessica has been a member of Phi Delta Epsilon for one year and she currently serves on our executive board as VP of Recruitment. She chose PhiDE because she wanted to join an organization that had a strong family bond, and she also loves our philanthropy which includes visiting children at our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital and collecting donations and supplies for them. She states, “this reminds me of why I pursued medicine”. In addition, her communication and leadership skills have grown while in PhiDE. Jessica loves to read books, watch Netflix, and try new restaurants! She is interested in potentially pursuing obstetrics and gynecology, however she is still undecided. Thank you for being a part of our Epsilon Nu family, Jessica!

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Emily Guyaux! She is currently a second year medical student here at the UNLV School of Medicine. Emily is from Sparks, NV and she attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC for her undergraduate studies. She has been a member of Phi Delta Epsilon for 2 years and has helped with graphic design throughout her time here. Emily chose PhiDE because she identified with our commitment to excellence, wanted to be a part of the worldwide professional support, and appreciated the emphasis on community service and family atmosphere. “PhiDE has been everything I hoped, from leadership opportunity to educational support to being part of the widespread PhiDE family!”. Emily loves musical theater, playing the piano at her church, and swing dancing with her husband. She has also shown interest in pursuing primary care, specifically internal medicine or family medicine. Thanks for being a part of our Epsilon Nu family, Emily!

Last month Dr. Nora Doyle from the UNLV Maternal Fetal Medicine department came in and taught PhiDE members basic ultrasound skills! Luckily no gallstones, despite the med school diet.

Stand For The Kids was created to unite the nation to stand in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. 🔸
Together, we will stand to honor the dedicated doctors, families, friends, and supporters who spend countless hours and sleepless nights standing by a child in need. In standing for the kids, we will take a step toward a vision of a world where no child, regardless of injury, illness, or ability to pay, is denied the care of a dedicated children’s hospital.

Stand For The Kids 2017

On Wednesday October 11th at 9AM we will join all of PhiDE in Standing for the Kids who can't. We stand in support of Children's Miracle Network Hospital, and are proud to support an organization who treats all kids regardless of their parents' ability to pay, and where all of our money raised stays local. On October 11th we will be at 1001 Shadow Lane from 7-8AM raising money for our local hospital! #SFTKUNLV #PhiDE #FactaNonVerba
