Fun times teaching the folks at Today's Dental how to incorporate the greatest dental apps of all time, DDS GP and DDS App, into their workflow. It's not every day we can get Howard Farran DDS, MBA to sit quietly for an hour while WE lecture to HIM! Thanks to Robert, Lorie Xelowski, and you all for the hospitality. We will be at Townie Event this month to present there and have some great specials! To learn more about our apps, visit www.ddsgp.com and www.ddsapp.com
Dentistry is a pay me now or pay me later service industry. During a recession if you stop going out to eat at the restaurant it loses money indefinitely and will never get that lost money back. In dentistry when you stop going to the dentist your small cavity that might have cost around $250 to get fixed with a small filling eventually turns into a toothache needing a root canal and crown for around $2,500.
One of the biggest problems in dentistry is that the dentists and team do not explain the treatment options very well to their patients. The average dental office drills, fills and bills only 38 cavities for every 100 diagnosed. This is a horrible close rate. Imagine if your local fire department only put out 38% of fires? Imagine if the police only caught 38% of the bad guys. Yet in dentistry you routinely see two dental offices in the same medical-dental building with the exact same number of patients, staff and operatories, yet one dental office has a 76% close rate and collects over a million dollars a year, and the other dental office next door has a 38% close rate and does half a million. They both have the same rent, mortgage, equipment, build out, computers, staff, insurance, marketing, professional dues, gas, water, and electrical utilities, guess which office has 40% overhead and which one has the national average of 65% overhead.
If you had children which dentist would you want to send your children to? The dentists that removes the decay 76% of the time, or 38% of the time? Dentists want to spend all their time arguing over which bonding agent they are going to use, while patients all want to debate whether or not fluoride and sealants are good for you, but if you really want to be the best dentist in town, with the highest measurable success outcomes of how many cavities you repaired, then the real issue should be on who and how you present the treatment plan, followed by who and how you present the financial arrangement.
Today we had Dr. Robert Marcus DMD and Tracy Francis lead our staff meeting by going over the iPad app "DDS GP" https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dds-gp/id386704683?mt=8 by Kick Your Apps, Inc. http://www.kickyourapps.com/KYA/Home.html.
I also love the app they made for our www.TodaysDental.com that every one of our patients can download in the App Store at Today's Dental by Kick Your Apps, Inc. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/todays-dental/id961994754?mt=8.
There is a great discussion about this DDS GP app on dentaltown at “DDS GP iPad app” at Dentaltown Message Board Computers & Software Mobile Devices and Applications http://www.dentaltown.com/MessageBoard/thread.aspx?a=11&s=2&f=1387&t=154470&pg=1&st=dds%20gp%20app&g=1.
Namaste, Dr. Howard Farran DDS, MBA
