I'm not saying getting kicked in the nuts/box is the cure to your anxiety, depression, ADHD,...
What I am saying is that the first step to positive change is increasing your ability to deal with difficulty.
When you embrace difficulty, rather than avoiding it, you can see the following benefits.
1) Increased Energy - embracing difficulty releases of epinephrine (adrenaline) in the brain and body. This increases alertness and is one of the triggers for neuroplasticity.
2) Better Mood - Dopamine will be released after the " Suck" moment when you realized you made it through. Dopamine is a “feel-good” hormone.
3) Perseverance - the sense purposefulness and meaning from getting through sucky moments create resilience against mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression.
4) Focus and Flow state: Embracing the Suck will build mental endurance that will contribute to increased focus and ability to find flow state more frequently.
My daily practices to embrace “the suck” are cold showers and breath work.
