"Connected systems are healthier systems. Digital health systems need to interact with each other across all care settings so that Canadians’ health information moves with them through the system. Since a patient’s care journey may include check ins with a family doctor, visits with specialists, trips to the emergency department, and more, everyone on a patient’s care team needs better access to a patient’s complete health care history so delays and duplications can be avoided. Connected care, or interoperability, enables information to flow seamlessly between different solutions and devices. When different parts of the health system are interoperable with each other, they can speak the same language. During this year's Digital Health Week, we want you to help us get the word out about the importance of a modernized health care system that is connected, equitable and accessible."

“Medicinal cannabis use was reported to improve quality of life and reduce unwanted medication use by many of the study participants. The present findings indicate that medicinal cannabis can potentially play a harm-reduction role, helping veterans to use fewer pharmaceutical medications and other substances.”
The observational study, which was published last month in the journal Clinical Therapeutics, has several limitations—including the fact that data was self-reported and several cannabis friendly media outlets and companies promoted recruitment or provided funding for the research initiative. But the findings are generally consistent with other studies that have focused on ma*****na as a potential alternative to prescription drugs.

"One of those realities for those living with Crohn’s or colitis is a frequent and urgent need for bowel movements – from 5 to 20 times a day. Anxiety about accidents is real. Finding a washroom quickly is a top priority. Many prefer to stay at home, or close to home, if they cannot be certain of finding a washroom outside of home."

"Cannabis actually affects your appetite in two different ways:
It can make food taste better, which makes you more likely to eat it. And it can trick your brain into thinking you’re hungry, even if you’ve recently eaten. The active ingredients in cannabis (cannabinoids) bind to certain receptors in the body, including receptors on your tongue. When these receptors are activated, it enhances the way the brain responds to sweet-tasting food — and increases the desire for fatty foods. A clinical study showed that inhaled cannabis can also increase levels of hormones that make you hungry. But not all cannabis products increase hunger. That’s because not all cannabinoids activate the receptors that affect your appetite levels. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the primary cannabinoid that’s known to increase appetite. But THC is only 1 of more than 100 active chemicals found in cannabis. Animal studies show that another cannabinoid, called cannabigerol (CBG), may also stimulate appetite. This cannabinoid doesn’t have the same intoxicating effect as THC. So it’s of interest to researchers looking for a way to stimulate appetite without the high associated with THC."

On Remembrance Day, we reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served our beautiful nation.
We honour those who gave their lives to protect our country, ideals, communities, and loved ones.
We thank both past and present men and women who served and continue to serve our country.
We take two minutes of silence across the nation to remember and never forget.
We can never repay them, but are forever grateful.

The research, published in the Journal of Alternative Complementary and Integrative Medicine, looks at the impact of cannabis treatment on three patients in Portugal who used an 18-percent THC cannabis flower product. In addition to reductions in pain and improvements in sleep quality—seen in all three subjects—two of the patients also reported decreases in other medication they were seeing, suggesting a substitution effect.

This journal article presents an observational study on the use of cannabidiol (CBD)-dominant full-spectrum phytocannabinoid extract in children and adolescents with moderate to severe non-syndromic autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The researchers concluded that CBD-dominant full-spectrum phytocannabinoid extract shows promise as a potential treatment for ASD symptoms, particularly in improving social cognition and reducing dysfunctional behaviors. However, they emphasized the need for further research, including randomized controlled trials, to confirm these findings and establish optimal treatment protocols.

A study of hundreds of people using medical ma*****na reported “rapid and significant improvements” in health-related quality of life over the first three months, according to new research led by Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM).

The study, published in the Journal of Cannabis Research, followed nearly 400 adults who were new to using medical ma*****na to treat any of the more than 20 qualifying conditions in Pennsylvania. Study participants, with an average age of about 46 years old, were most commonly prescribed medical ma*****na to treat anxiety disorders or “severe chronic or intractable pain.”
