🤔Ever heard of a Gamekeeper's or Skier's Thumb? It's an injury that occurs when the thumb is forcefully pushed away from the index finger, resulting in torn ligaments in the thumb.

If you are wondering how this may happen, then picture instances like falling and catching your thumb, a skiing mishap, or even a forceful twist while using tools. The symptoms are telling—pain in the thumb joint, difficulty holding objects, painful pinching, and a visibly crooked thumb.

But here's the good news - we've got steps to potentially ease this discomfort! 💪

Congratulations, new mum! 🎉

We understand that the post-partum phase can be both exciting and challenging as you adjust to the beautiful changes in your life.

At Edge Healthcare, we recommend starting your postnatal physio checkup around 6-8 weeks after giving birth. 🗓️

This allows your body ample time to heal and recover from the miraculous process of childbirth. 🤱🏻 During this assessment, our physiotherapists will pay special attention to any scar tissue formation resulting from both vaginal and caesarean births.

Whether it's scar tissue over the perineum (for vaginal birth) or the lower belly (for caesarean birth), we'll carefully assess and mobilise these areas if required.

Those little yet significant scar tissues can sometimes contribute to post-partum back and pelvic pain, and we want to ensure you feel your best as you embrace this magical phase of motherhood.

Our personalised approach to postnatal physiotherapy aims to nurture your well-being, guiding you towards a pain-free and joyous journey into motherhood. 🌟
So, don't hesitate to reach out and schedule your checkup with us – we're here to support you every step of the way!

Disclaimer: if you are experiencing any bothersome symptoms (such as neck pain, back pain, or leakage of urine) after giving birth, you can make an appointment earlier than at the 6-week mark. Don't feel like you have to suffer till the 6-week mark before seeking help!

📞 For a personalised postnatal physiotherapy consultation, give us a call today at Edge Healthcare. Let's embark on this wonderful journey together, nurturing your body and soul as you cherish every moment with your little one! 💕

🤔Struggling with persistent pain in your bottom when sitting?

Here are some of our tips on how to relieve this discomfort!

👉Distribute your weight evenly across your spine and pelvis for a balanced feel. Keep those feet flat on the ground, thighs parallel to floor at a minimum but ideally hips slightly higher than knees, and consider using a footstool to reduce pressure on your pelvis and legs, enhancing your sitting experience.

🦶Additionally, fine-tune the armrest of your chair, positioning it to slightly lift your arms at the shoulders, relieving strain on your upper back and shoulders. Don't forget to introduce a rolled-up towel or a lumbar support cushion to maintain the arch in your lower back and prevent any slumping forward.

👏Lastly, try to reduce the cross-legged position—it's time to bid farewell to muscle irritation and potential sciatic nerve aggravation. Embrace these changes, and you'll notice a significant improvement in your sitting comfort and overall well-being. Your back will thank you!

And if you want your friends and loved ones to thank you, too, then you'd better share this post with them. Trust us; you will be doing them a favour! Ready to learn more? Keep swiping to find out the secret key to pain-free sitting. 😉

👋 Hey there! Stop your scrolling right now because today, we will be taking a dive into the fascinating world of shoulder health! 👍

✨ Our shoulders are true heroes, enabling us to lift, reach, and conquer daily tasks. But like any superhero, they can face their fair share of challenges. These are some common shoulder injuries that can lead to Glenohumeral Joint (GHJ) instability👇

Understanding these culprits can help us make informed choices and protect our precious shoulders. So, let's explore together! 💪

➡️ Bankart Lesion: Watch out for this sneaky injury! It involves a tear or detachment of the labrum, the cartilage in the glenoid socket of the shoulder joint. It usually happens after an anterior shoulder dislocation, making the glenohumeral joint less stable.

➡️ Ligamentous Laxity: Loose ligaments can be trouble! When they become excessively loose, they can't hold the humeral head securely in the glenoid socket. Whether it's from a congenital condition or injuries, this laxity can make our shoulder more prone to instability.

➡️ Hill-Sachs Lesion: The Hill-Sachs lesion is a tiny dent that can cause big problems. When the humeral head bumps into the glenoid rim during a shoulder dislocation, it leaves a mark. This little dent can increase the risk of future instability.

➡️ Torn Rotator Cuff: Our shoulder's A-team, the rotator cuff, is crucial for stability. But if one or more tendons tear (a torn rotator cuff), it weakens the shoulder's integrity. The weakened rotator cuff muscles struggle to keep the humeral head secure, leading to GHJ instability.

Knowing these facts helps us keep our shoulders strong, stable, and injury-free. Share this info with friends to promote shoulder health.

Remember, prevention is key to a more active future! 💙 If you are suffering from an injured shoulder, trust your rehabilitation treatment in the expert hands of professional practitioners at Edge Healthcare.

Golfer's elbow, or Medial epicondylitis, is a condition characterized by degeneration and inflammation of the tendons on the inside of the elbow. It occurs due to overuse of the forearm tendons, commonly seen in activities involving repetitive wrist and hand movements. 👈

Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in treating golfer's elbow, offering interventions such as activity modification, soft tissue treatment, stretching, strengthening exercises, taping, postural assessment, ergonomic assessment, and dry needling. 👍

Ignoring the condition or continuing activities that exacerbate it can worsen the injury, prolong recovery, and increase pain. 😖

If you're experiencing these conditions, contact Edge Healthcare to schedule an appointment for an assessment and personalised physiotherapy treatment options.🙂

Unlocking the Play book: Navigating Tennis Elbow and Golfer’s Elbow 🎾⛳️

When it comes to aiding these notorious elbow companions, the game plan remains remarkably consistent. A timeout for rest takes centre stage – a strategic pause from the activity triggering the discomfort can work wonders.

Physiotherapy steps onto the court as a top contender in pain reduction. The good news? The clock's on our side, with 80-85% of cases showing significant improvement in a range of 3 months, often bypassing the need for surgery. Stretching, gentle strengthening, and ergonomic finesse become our allies in reclaiming full swing.

But let's not forget the defensive play book – prevention. As much as we love the game, maintenance holds the key. Light strengthening, stretching, and the magic of massage from our guard against potential aches.

Above all, the MVP of prevention is moderation. Mindful of repetitive motions that strain wrist and arm, we ensure a harmonious rhythm in everyday activities. With this play book, victory over golfer’s elbow and tennis elbow is within reach – no interference with sports, work, or cherished hobbies. 🏆🩹⚡️

31/07/2023

The pelvic floor refers to a group of muscles located at the base of the pelvis that plays a vital role in providing essential support for the organs and helping control bladder and bowel movements. 🫶

During pregnancy, the pelvic floor muscles undergo significant changes due to the growing uterus and hormonal fluctuations. These changes can lead to various issues, such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and weakened pelvic floor muscles. 😕

However, targeted exercises can help strengthen these muscles and minimise potential problems. Here are some exercises that can effectively strengthen the bladder muscles during pregnancy:👇

👉Kegels: Kegel exercises involve contracting and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles. To perform a Kegel, squeeze the muscles used to stop the flow of urine, hold for a few seconds, and then release. Repeat this exercise in sets of 10 several times a day.

👉Squats: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, lower yourself into a squatting position, and then return to the starting position. Perform 10-15 squats, gradually increasing the repetitions as tolerated.

👉Bridges: Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Slowly lift your hips off the ground, engaging the glutes and pelvic floor muscles. Hold the position for a few seconds, then lower your hips back down. Aim for 10-15 repetitions.

👉Pelvic Tilts: Start by lying on your back with knees bent. Flatten your lower back against the floor by gently tilting your pelvis upward. Hold for a few seconds, and then release. Repeat this exercise 10-15 times.

Remember, every day mum-to-be has unique needs, and it's important to tailor exercises to individual requirements.

Our specialised practitioners can provide exercises specifically designed to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and address pregnancy-related concerns. 👍
