Sara is a 21-year-old girl who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Language Disorder.She had significant difficulty communicating with others and expressing her needs and wants, which resulted in frequent behavioral outbursts.

Sara's parents and therapists began exploring augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) options to help her communicate effectively. AAC involves using tools and strategies to support communication for individuals with complex communication needs.

However, Sara's communication needs expanded as she got older, and she needed a more sophisticated AAC system to express herself fully. Her therapists then introduced her to a high-tech AAC device, which allowed her to use a touch screen to select and speak words and sentences.

The device had a preloaded vocabulary, and Sara's therapists also customized it to include words and phrases that were relevant to her daily life. With this AAC device, Sara was able to communicate more effectively with others, express her feelings, and participate in social interactions.

AAC has been a game-changer for Sara, as it has helped her overcome her communication challenges and improve her social skills. Her family and therapists continue to work with her on using AAC to improve her language and communication skills further.

Sara's story highlights the importance of early intervention and the use of AAC in supporting individuals with ASD and Language Disorder. With the right tools and support, individuals with complex communication needs can learn to communicate effectively and live fulfilling lives.
