Woven Brave Doula Woven Brave Birth Care:

Providing you with the tools you need to step confidently into parenthood Birth is an amazing transformation process.
(3)

My approach to childbirth is based on my belief that women are powerful beings who are often transformed during pregnancy, birth, and mothering. That transformation can be magnificent or stunted, depending on the support they are given and the belief they have in themselves and their bodies. My goal is simply to facilitate women in the discovery of their own abilities with support in achieving the

type of experience they want. I have personally experienced and witnessed the emotional, psychological and spiritual impact it has had on myself and other women. It is my privilege as a doula to support women and their families in that process.

*BRAVE BIRTH RESPECTS ALL ASPECTS OF PEOPLE, INCLUDING GENDER IDENTITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, FAMILY CONFIGURATION, RACE, ETHNICITY, SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS, AGE, RELIGION, AND ABILITY. I WORK HARD TO ESTABLISH TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS TO CREATE AN OPEN AND AFFIRMING SPACE FOR EVERYONE TO GATHER.

KNOW YOUR HISTORY: One of the darkest moments in US history was the systematic eradication of the African American midwife from her community, resulting in a legacy of birth injustices.

*LEGACY POWER VOICE: MOVEMENTS IN BLACK MIDWIFERY* is working on some really great stuff! The mission to establish a representative voice at the national level that organizes, advocates, and brings visibility to the issues impacting Black midwives and the communities they serve.

If you are a birth worker you have an obligation & responsibility to learn the history of the profession you practice. If you are a midwife you have an obligation & responsibility to learn the history of midwifery in this country, specifically how enslaved Black women literally birthed and nursed this nation, how enslaved Black women served as midwives and healers for entire communities; white slave owners and enslaved Black people alike. How our sisters; Anarcha, Betsy, and Lucy were experimented on, and the smear campaign of white men to discredit and criminalize midwifery. You need to know how ina may gaskin stole her "manuever" from the Guatemalan women she met, how she learned midwifery from Black Tennessean women. You need to call this s**t out. You need to know that even as recently as 2016 med students were taught that Black people experienced pain differently than white people and how Black people are routinely ignored when they report pain.

If you are a doula you need to learn from Black and Brown doula trainers. You need to question the cultural appropriation of Native American & Indigenous language and techniques taught to you. You need to learn Indigenous techniques like womb steaming and womb massage and Rebozo from people from where this is from.
Statistics quoting is bulls**t. Racism is why we are dying on the streets and in the OR. Racism is why we are dying of neglect and presentable causes. Racism is why we are fighting for our lives and screaming
The system is based on racism and racism and implicit bias lives on in individuals.
We are not Statistics. We are people.

We can’t let up the fight to address maternal mortality in Americaβ€”especially right now. When we address both the systematic disparities and implicit bias in both our society and our health care system, we can get to the point where being Black and pregnant is full of joy and free from fear of preventable death.
- Every day, pregnant women walk into their doctor’s or midwifery office for checkups, advice and treatment; but that experience is very different for Black women. Black women are three to four times more likely than white women to die from pregnancy-related causes and twice as likely to suffer from life-threatening pregnancy-related complications. These disparities persist regardless of one’s income or education level. So, while this is a stressful time for any expectant mother, the potential ramifications that come with giving birth during a pandemicβ€”and specifically a pandemic that is disproportionately impacting African-Americansβ€”is of particular concern to Black women. #716

HAPPY JUNETEENTH- BLACK GRANNY MIDWIVES BIRTHED A NATION.
_
The first African Midwives arrived in America in 1619, bringing with them ancestral knowledge of healing wisdom from an array of African cultures and their rich and for prenatal care. Their extensive knowledge and well honed skills allowed them to care for enslaved black women and white women in the US and as well as deliver their babies. Very often the midwives would look after entire families, providing primary care for women, pediatric care for infants and , and medical care for men when necessary. Black Granny Midwives are integral to American history to the historical fabric of the obstetric and midwifery professions in United States.
_
Legislative action combined with racist propaganda was used to change an entire health care system and ancestral way of life, contributing to the development of health and reproductive disparities that persist to this day. Black midwives were scapegoated for the high infant mortality rates in the rural south when in fact their birth outcomes were far better than those of physicians, because obstetrics was a very new practice and the ancestral knowledge about the sacred womb was extensive and passed down for generations.
_
There was a systematic elimination of Black Midwives and their practices because new legislation provided reimbursement for obstetrical care suddenly making Black women attractive potential clientele to white physicians.
_
This is Maude Callen, born in 1898 in Florida, she went to South Carolina in the 1920s to work as a nurse-midwife in the most disenfranchised communities in the Lowcountry. She operated a community clinic from her rural home. She delivered hundreds of babies over the decades, taught prenatal care, she also trained women to become midwives.
_
The Legacy of Black Midwives is not celebrated as part of our rich history in this nation but we need to collectively bow to the women who delivered this nation. Repost from

A recent survey of 222 White medical students and residents showed that 50% of them endorsed at least one myth about the physiological differences between Black people and White people i.e. Black people’s nerve endings are less sensitive so they are less susceptible to pain. This makes them less likely to recommend appropriate treatments. One third of these DOCTORS believed that Black skin is just thicker than White skin.

Racial biases that people take with them to their jobs everyday continue to harm Blacks in frightening ways all over this country.

This message will be repeated here no matter the day, week, month, or news cycle. Black birthing people are 3x more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth related complications than their white counterparts. This is a statistical fact. This is the starting point for our efforts as birth workers. Until this improves, nothing else will.
__
Why? Institutionalized, systemic racism is the root cause. The practice of modern Obstetrics & Gynecology itself was founded in racism and exploitation of black bodies (google: J. Marion Sims). A lifetime of enduring these violent systems of oppression (including barriers to accessing healthcare, the school to prison pipeline, police brutality, and much more) leaves black bodies more vulnerable to maternal mortality (google: weathering). The practice of modern midwifery was stolen and appropriated from black and indigenous midwives and birth keepers, who now make up only a tiny fraction of practicing midwives in the US. The concerns of black birthing people are ignored, and their pain diminished (google: Serena Williams birth). When they enter a hospital to give birth, they enter a system that was literally designed to cause them harm. These are just a few reasons why we continue to see massive disparities in maternal and neonatal outcomes.
__
One of the best ways to protect black birthing families is by supporting black birth workers tangibly/financially. They are the ones who can best serve their communities. Link in stories/bio to donate.

You See Your Smallness: On Giving Birth during a Pandemic & National protesting. This global pandemic alongside Americans racial problems adds several more layers of logistical and emotional overwhelm to the already overwhelming time of new parenthood. Every birth of a human baby is difficultβ€”difficult to prepare for, difficult to execute, difficult to adjust to afterward. Living under lockdown conditions while a pandemic & protest encircles the globe is also difficult, logistically as well as psychologically. At this very moment, hundreds of thousands of pregnant Americans are preparing to do both of those things at the same time. birth keepers & doulas have been quietly filling in the gaps of the maternity care system for years and years. Now we have a crisis and the same system that doulas have been making up for, the first chance it got, was like, we still don’t know what you do and we still don’t appreciate you. So all of those gaps that doulas were filling are back, luckily NYS has recently lifted the rule on Doulas attendance during labor and deliveryβ€” with proper credentials of course: birth keepers & doulas are welcomed back in to the hospitals. ✨ I had the lovely pleasure of joining this family during the birth of their Rainbow(x2) babies birth. You would have never known that a pandemic outbreak was happening in the hospital directly across the street with the rising of political change taking to our street’s ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏼✊🏽 We managed all of our fears and did a hell of a great job as a team: mother, father, birth keeper & L&D nurses working together truly trusting each other’s birth keeping rolls.
✨Please take tome to educate yourself and learn more about racial disparities with in our community in www.commonsensechildbirth.org/ & http://www.birthequity.org/ ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏿✊🏾 If you’d like more information/ links please send a DM, I’d be more then happy to share my resources with you.

Deep into the depths of her womb. Submerged in the warmth of her waters and floating from the love in her heart.
I’m in constant awe of the female form and our abilities to house, nurture, nourish and protect our little sentient beings.
I’m in constant awe of the strength and primal instincts that engage automatically when we become mothers. A switch that flicks in our brains, our blood and our hearts before even the smallest of cells are laid out.
I feel we become, essentially, the wildest version of ourselves when we become mothers.

Does this image remind you of something, perhaps from art history class? Turned on it’s side, we thought this engraving of a delivery from Phillip Peu’s La pratique des acouchemens (1694) is reminiscent of Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, which was painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Some history of art scholars have hypothesized that the artist’s scene depicts a representation of the birthing process.

"With Mother’s Day right around the corner, you are not forgotten. You are not alone.β €
β €
I know you thought this Mother’s Day would be different. You thought you’d be waking up to the soft coos of your newborn baby. Maybe you thought you’d be rubbing your growing belly. Or at the very least, you thought you’d be holding a positive pregnancy test in your hands.
β €
I know you’ll open Instagram and Facebook on Sunday to see mother’s everywhere being showered with homemade cards, breakfast in bed, and flowers. I know you’ll ache to be celebrated too.β €
β €
But you DO deserve to be celebrated. You deserve cards. You deserve breakfast in bed. You deserve flowers. Fighting to become a Mom deserves to be celebrated.β €
β €
So this Mother’s Day, I hope you are celebrated. I hope you feel love. And I hope you find joy as you wait for your miracle."

Our time in our mothers womb creates a incubator in which we absorb energy from her, her surroundings, her experiences and her emotions.

How your mothers felt about her
Voice
Sexuality
Human body
Life
Love
Sensuality
Primal energy
Dreams
Visions
Money
Letting go
Controlling patterns
All imprints the water of the embryonic fluids
The sack babies grow in.... This can manifest through into the relationship with our mothers when we arrive Earth side and Effect all relationships throughout our whole life.

The imprints and patterns can manifest within our own life experience and show up in ways we relate to ourselves and the world.
We can Heal our Womb Disconnection & Gestational Trauma by Un weaving the imprints wrapped around us during our time of development in the womb
This healing will ReWire your Connection to your body, sensuality, sexuality, pleasure and original innocence fully awakening your feminine spirit
If this path of transformation isn’t walked then it is very likely that life will constantly play out in the loop of wounding, patterns and triggers... Only we can make this decision at a soul level
Only we have the power to decide how we want to experience the rest of our lives....

If you are in the midst of it today.
As a new mum.
Old mum, like me!
New dad.
Pregnant and exhausted.
Just exhausted.
If it all feels just too much, too hard. Too relentless. Just so much stuff to do or deal with. Unable to see the light or the hope.
Constantly worried.
Constantly on edge and assuming the worst. Not sleeping or eating. Isolating yourself away from the world.
That’s such a hard scary and lonely place to be.
It can seem you will never get better, you feel stuck. Trapped. Hopeless. Maybe even like ending you life or wanting to run away. Listen my friend there is always a solution out there for you. Tell anyone you can in anyway you can. It’s not your fault. You are not weak or to blame. You did nothing wrong. You deserve all the love and care and attention you can find. Find it and take it, you are so very worthy. If you don’t want to see a professional find a friend or someone online or on a phone line. Find music or an animal or books or exercise or joy in whatever works for you. Keep trying to find the mix that feels like it is right for you and will hold you safely. Much love to all tonight. πŸ’«Repost from

A little birth keeping wisdom for world doula week!
{March 22-28th}

During pregnancy, we focus so much on the birth itself, that we often overlook the postpartum time; we write birth plans but don’t plan for what our needs will be after baby arrives. This time is so precious and fleeting; taking a moment to think through those first few hours, days, and even weeks to envision how you want to welcome your baby allows her/his life to unfold gently into the world, and makes all the difference in setting a healthy foundation for mothering and breastfeeding in the coming months.
Making a postpartum plan, just as you have probably done for your birth, can help you feel safe, strong, and supported in the postpartum.

❀️ heres our postpartum with our fourth baby, Everyone was tuckered out.

03/23/2020

Happy Monday everyone! We hope you and your loved ones are safe + healthy πŸ•Š I thought this would be a great time to share some information regarding breastmilk and immunity:
πŸ’« Doctors have long known that infants who are breast-fed contract fewer infections. It turns out that breast-fed babies gain extra protection from antibodies, other proteins and immune cells found in human milk.
πŸ’« According to the Iowa Extension Service, every teaspoon of breastmilk has 3,000,000 germ killing cells in it; so even one teaspoon a day is giving baby some immune protection!
πŸ’« Once ingested, live molecules and cells in the milk help to prevent microorganisms from penetrating the baby’s body tissues.
πŸ’« Certain immune cells in human milk attack viruses and bacteria directly. Another set produces chemicals that stimulate baby’s own immune response.
πŸ’« Immune cells are abundant in human milk. They can fight infection and activate other defense mechanisms in baby’s body. The most impressive amount is found in colostrum.
πŸ’« Some of the immune factors in breastmilk increase in concentration as baby gets older and nurses less, so older babies still receive lots of immune factors. In other words, as your toddler starts to nurse less and milk supply decreases, the concentration of immunities increases!!
πŸ’« Remember, freezing kills the live immune factors of breastmilk even though the nutrition (vitamins, protein, fat) is maintained. Whenever possible, offer fresh breast milk for the best immunity.
πŸ’« Continue breastfeeding or pumping to offer breast milk whenever possibleβ€” especially when either of you are sick! Actively feeding your baby directs your breastmilk to create the necessary antibodies to protect baby from that specific virus.

Practice social distancing and still support your clients! This pandemic is highlighting how horrible our healthcare system is. We have always known this. That's why we all chose this path to support birthing individuals. A HARD conversation needs to be had on what the future will look like. We need to adapt or we will not survive this. This can be a time that birthing folks take back their power. Be proactive in their healthcare. You have the skils and ability to teach them. This system uses Doulas as a bandaid. Bandaids are not supposed to stay on forever. I encourage everyone to think beyond your self and more how communally we can shift our outcomes. Be creative. Be inspired. Be powerful. You got this.

The Real SECRET:
Let Go………Surrender.
A huge key to letting go is knowing that life will give you something better than whatever it asks you to give up. It is the secret of being fearless, of being at peace with yourself.
When you realise that life is one beautiful whole movement, a flow that cannot contradict itself, that is not in conflict with anything it does within itself. That we as human beings, all of us, have the ground of that very stuff within our Soul….. Essence, Divine Light, Holy Spirit, call it what you like.
We resist things, we try to control them, simply because we think that life has come to take something away if we do not hold on tight to it. This was an implant of long ago, it is a downright lie, and you must remove it forever in every twisted belief that is reflected back at you.
In a way, Yes, in the Presence of Love, something IS removed from you but IT gives to you always something More. Something that tells you that what you are is as seed to the flower. Life comes along to disturb you into new possibilities through your recognition of your Higher Being and Higher Purpose. Through the experience of the indescribable joy of the expansion of your own Lovingness.
As for your doubts, first you learn to ignore and step back from them. Then, seeing the doubts pop up, you choose to smile and say β€œno thankyou”. You take your own Knowing in the first 3 seconds of its appearance and begin consciously choosing the thoughts and feelings that reflect the deep core of who you are.
Then you see the doubts float away by becoming fewer and fewer and less and less consequential.
Eventually they will only impinge if you happen to focus deliberately.

Knowing that life will give you something better than whatever it asks you to give up, is the same knowing you discover that when you let go with love, more of the most exquisite and exhilarating experience of love, synchronicity, harmony, peace and loving connection flows through and around you.
You see it everywhere and all becomes so easy.
Shine On
I So Love You
