The answer is YES❗

No matter what, you should always wear a high SPF sunscreen, but you should take extra caution when covering scars, especially when they’re new. This is because they are highly vulnerable to burning and skin cancer when exposed to the sun.

If you’re not careful in the summer months, the combination of healing tissue and sun exposure can lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation causing the scar and surrounding skin to change colour.

For any upcoming summer plans, be sure to protect your scars in the best way possible by making sure to apply an SPF 30 or above and make sure that they aren’t directly exposed to the sun for optimal scar recovery and long-term protection 🖤

How to check your moles❓

Follow this simple ABCDE guide to help determine whether a mole or growth may be cancerous.

We recommend regular self-monitoring of your moles to look for any changes in colour, shape or size. Warning signs for cancerous changes from existing or new moles/freckles can be easily remembered using this method.

Mole removal at sk:n, what an incredible result! ➡️

Our lovely patient had a mole removed by Dr. Keith Rose in our Manchester clinic. The removal required a punch biopsy and 3 stitches resulting in a small scar that is hardly noticeable 👏

At this time of year, due to the increase in sun exposure, it's incredibly important to check your moles and note any abnormalities.

It is with sadness, that we have made the decision to temporarily close all of our clinics as of 8pm, Monday 23rd March. We have taken every precautionary measure to keep the health and wellness of our staff, clients, friends and family safe to date, but with the escalating situation to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we feel it is time to close the doors to our clinics.
